Need help with factory tach- '79 Silverado

After letting my truck sit for a couple of months, my factory tach quit working correctly. It is either at 0 or around 35. Any ideas or a plan of action would be appreciated.

tach no work

Hey we have the same truck. Show some pics. We can swap ideas.

The most common reason for a tach to stop working is poor connection at the distributor. Spray the distributor connections with lots of WD-40 or the best PB Blaster. Next check the fuses in the fuse block, and check for good ground at pass side rocker cover. Frank

Thanks for the ideas Frank. Those sound promising since it does seem to work, just incorrectly. Looks like you have a worthwhile project in front of you. Be sure and take pictures along the way.
My truck has basically looked like this for 20+ years, which the rollbar probably gives away. It always had 265 50's in front and 295 50's in back, but I needed it to be more of a truck again so I went with the stock rally wheels. As you get old, so does all the flash I guess. (by the way, that's 24 year old paint too. Gettin thin on the hood).

I agree with frank, check the connections...sounds like they are loose or dirty.
