How many run no inner front fenders?

Do you run with no inner front fenders and why? How about some photos of them.

have had no inner fenders on any the probably 30-40 vehciels i have gone through since the early 90s.

why? tires almost always rub the hood.

I’m only running the top of the inner fenders, needed to retain the hood hinges:





This small amount also deflects about 95% of the tire spray in bad weather. Once a year in the spring I hose down the firewall and inside the front fenders at the coin operated car wash, and it looks like it receives regular cleaning.

Here are the reasons I removed mine:

1. They were rusty and needed repairs or replacement.
2. I wanted them out of the way for fenderwell headers.
3. I always thought street rods looked cool when you could just look in and see the engine.
4. I’m old with back problems, and having the inner fenders out of the way makes working on the truck simple with easy access to everything.
5. Since I can’t lean over very well, it’s much easier to just climb in the engine compartment and stand on the floor when working on the distributor or firewall.

That's a great looking engine compartment - I'd want to show it off too... mine on the other hand should be hidden behind my rusty inner wells...

Back when I was younger, I had a 72 SWB fleet with no inner fenders. It also had no glove box liner or heater box. The funny thing is, my old friend was riding with me and decided to open the glove box door. Before I could say "that is not a good idea" right between the eyes with a nice quarter size stone that dislodged itself from the tire at just the exact time. He was OK but had a small knot on his head for a few days. I laughed about that for a while.

I don't have any on mine right now but they are going back on after reading on here how a rock can make a nice dent in your hood if you don't have them. They can hear my nice engine and if they want a look they can ask.. I will be happy to show it. Nothing special anyway.

Quite a few on the rear. Not so much on the front, but then I used to wheel this old steel through the Rubicon and had 36" Swampers that liked to "hold" onto stuff til you get to a certain speed. I learned to do some hard turns in the parking lot after wheeling to let some loose. And being mechanic for a decade or so I saw some weird stuff lodged in fender wells. One was a nice Snap-on pry bar, "Score"!

I am on both sides, bk2life is right because I have had tons of trucks with much thinner sheetmetal and no inners and never had a single rock dent.

but my 65 has custom inners (see avatar) because of where the fender stops, otherwise when it rains water would just pour out of the hood gap.
