Good price for 4.8?
Well I am going to start shopping for a 4.8/5.3 this spring. Maybe do a swap next winter. My question is what's a fair milage/price on either motor? I plan on at least doing a cam swap and maybe heads.. An what is a goo estimation on swapping from gen 1 sbc to ls? Trying to get my ducks in a row!

Re: Good price for 4.8?
When I was shopping I found everything from an unkown mileage/year 5.3 for 350 with all accesories (in a mud puddle at a local yard) to 5.3 long blocks for 900 with 100k on them. I settled on an 04 5.3 with 86k for 700 with all accesories. Seamed to be lower miles and a good price. As far as the rest, for my swap in my 80 C10 I have 600 in the fuel system (tank, sending unit, pump, lines, fittings), 600 in my harness (had a brand new harness made), 200 in the computer and tune, and about 400 in an LS1 intake (intake, injectors, rails, throttle body). The LS1 intake is just because I liked the looks better so you don't have to use that. Figure about a hundred for motor mounts and you also need to decide what trans you want to use to determine that cost.

Re: Good price for 4.8?
Thanks guys! I'm shopping in the next few months, I'm going to keep an eye out for a good deal... I started off wanting a 6.0 but its looking like a 5.3 is a more desirable motor... I don't know which way I want to go guess ill just see what comes up when I can buy..

Re: Good price for 4.8?
I bought a ?? mileage 02 Silverado 4.8 motor w/ manifolds but no accessories for $500. Thought it was complete w/ accessories (ebay) but it wasn't.
In retrospect, should have bought a complete engine locally or gone really in depth with the Ebay seller instead of taking face value of their words. Don't pay more than 800 for a complete 4.8 w/ harness & accessories. for a 5.3, up to 900 maybe. a 6.0 goes for 1,000 pretty routinely. |
