55-59 Rust Problems

What are the problem areas I should look at on a 55-59? It seems like everyone has rust on the steps in the door. I found one near my place of work and thought I might make an offer, seeing as its just rusting away in their backyard. I didn't want to overlook anything like I did with my '51.

Thanks,
-Matt

Re: 55-59 Rust Problems

The places you already mentioned are good spots to look at, as well as under the rear cab corners, the door hinge areas, the bottom of the front fenders, door bottoms, and the rear fenders.

One good rule of thumb, look at the areas that companies make patch panels and replacement parts for.

Re: 55-59 Rust Problems

Look under the leading edge of the roof, poke with a screwdriver.

Check for cracks in the sealant in the roof gutters.

Also check under the "brow" of the headlights.

Kickpanels inside truck, typically where they meet the floor.
