Quadrajet question
Hey Guys, I'm a neophyte when it comes to carburetors. I am renovating a 1974 GMC C1500 pickup. I'm putting a new stock 350 from Summit in it. A friend gave me a quadrajet 17083226 3202 FKC. It is for an 81-86 Chev/GMC/Truck BOP. It has the electric choke. Can I use this on my truck? Don't laugh too hard if I'm out in left field just educate me a little please. Thanks!

It will work just fine. Run a hot wire to it that is only hot when the ignition is on, and then it will work as long as it is adjusted properly. If you have an air choke, you'll have to make provisions to block off the port at the manifold. Other than that, you should be fine. It will bolt right up.

My quadrajet is acting up. I've had a few on some of the Fbody cars I've had. After a rebuild from someone that knows what they are doing they are fine. But, if you dont know anyone that is good with them, get something different. I've always had luck with edelbrocks. I think that is what I'm going to have to do here next week.

Assuming the carb looks in decent shape, just get a stock GM manifold (non-egr unless you have to worry about emissions) and give it a try. The GM manifold won't need any adapters and should be cheap to get from a salvage yard. If the carb works at all, it should get you through the rest of the restoration project. Once you get the rest of the truck fixed up, then you can always re-think the carb and manifold question. Until then, save your money.

the q-jet is a great carb, it will give you the best balance of economy and performance. if the fuel was drained and it was stored properly, chances are you can just throw it on and go. cliff's high performance sells a great kit for 35 bucks to go through the carb if you need to tear into it...don't be afraid of the q-jet, most people don't like them because they have more parts than most carbs.

ive been told a q-jet is great and doesnt need constant adjustment like a holley.
But beware that they have a cork float that after time will get saturated and sag causing you to waste 30 to 60% of fuel. They are also known for " quadro bog " but if you can find somone to adjust your butterflies they are dependable. |

I do have a mechanic friend very familiar with the quadrajet. He has rebuilt it for me and I have it mounted on the new engine.

I think you will love it if it has a good rebuild and tuned correctly. As said before it has the best economy/ performance out there for a carb. I get better milage with my Qjet than most people do with their fuel injections on similar set ups.
