LY9 Front Assessories
So I've had this 4.8 sitting in my garage now for going on five years. The 350 in the K5 has hit the wall and is consuming gasoline and 10-30 in equal rates, so the time has come.
I need some pointers though. First off, you can see from the picture that I'm missing the alt., PS pump and accesory bracket. Also I'm missing the pedal and TAC (think that is correct). Out of ignorance, what should I start searching for regarding the accessory pieces? I believe this to be out of a 2007, so how many years plus or minus can I be looking for to find these parts? Second, I think I'd like to go with a whole new wiring harness. What are my options as far as vendors go that you've had good success with, that could possibly also provide the go pedal and TAC?

Looks like you just need the alt. power steering pump bracket. I have several 04 chevy trucks I am parting out. I can get you what you need. Also have the drive by wire pedal and module you need. Let me know.

If you can get a harness for free or very cheap then it makes sense to chop it up yourself or send it out - tech guys recommend Bill @ BP Automotive.
If not buy a PSI harness. With 243 heads I believe it would be an 07+ motor. Should be a strong runner! |

72Blazing I'll PM 'ya about the parts. I know it is not a 6.0+, nor is it the probably wiser 5.3 but, I have it. And it is paid for. :-) I'm figuring it will be a tad better in stock trim then the original 350 is/was. It is my DD on a 40 mile round trip to work. 6 of those are on dirt to our house which is heavily washboard generally 90% of the time. I use it to help save wear and tear on my DMax! Think I should keep the stock cam? I wish blowers were cheaper.

2007 was an odd year, they made both body styles of trucks. That manifold cover makes me think that this is out of the new body style of truck and would be a GenIV. If that's the case, you don't need a TAC, all you'll need is a pedal. Also looks like it has a harness on it? Why not use it? Also do you have the PCM?

I would think its a 5.3 being that you have 243 casting heads. What does the valley cover look like?

I'll take a few more pics of it tonight and post them up. On the black of the block though there is a blue dot painted on the 4.8 casting. I figured that indicated the size. What is the definitive way for me to find out exactly what I have?

243 heads are real common on 4.8's so I would believe that's what it is. To verify, you can pull a plug and look at the top of the pistons, if they're flat it's a 4.8, if they're dished it's a 5.3. that said, it's almost impossible to see the difference through that small hole. You could always pull the oil pan and check the numbers on the crank.
