trans cooler in radiator - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am thinking that having a trans cooler in the radiator will make the truck more consistant as the motor and trans will be at or around the same temp and /or warm up together . I have a seperate trans cooler now . How much difference could this make ? Who runs a seperate and in rad cooler ?

I run seperate coolers for transmission, engine oil and coolant.Just think it all works better for me

Torn. I have #2 in SuperPro telling me to put some HEAT in the trans/converter by sitting on he brake against the converter for a good 45 seconds BEFORE pulling out of the staging lanes.

And you have the trans builders saying NONONO NO!! Heat kills transmisions.

Who do we listen to,,, The guy that puts together <0.001 packages consistantly,,

or the guy we pay to rebuild the trans?????

I don't know, I just wanted an excuse to play with the gif's LMAO

Seriously,,, I run as much cooling as I can. I have one of these mounted under the bed because I don't have a in-radiator cooler. I have a trans temp gauge in the dash and I see temps of around 190-200 in the heat of summer after 5-6 passes (with short cool down times) On the street wheere I'm not against the brake or driving through the convertor at the top end,, it rarely comes off 140

I run a seperate in the Yellow truck . I am considering running in rad in the white one . I have a seperate cooler and the radiator will be more expensive . The "heavy hitters" around here have them as i have been eyeing alot of cars learning lately .

I run a trans cooler built into my Wizard radiator. So far so good.

You will be fine either way. It's all about consistency in what you do each time. I build mine with the most cooling I can get because I can control it better that way. If it's under cooled there is not much you can do.

Do it separate and put a switched fan on it.

Just my 2 cents.

i put mine where the bed floor used to be, with its own little 8 inch fan on it.

I run a seperate cooler, but I only advocate doing that if your are going to run a GOOD multi pass unit with fans etc....not one of the Jeggs 1 pass fin coolers.

If I wasn't running a good aftermarket cooler, I'd most likely have it in the radiator...but nothing is stopping ya from running it rhough the rad AND a good cooler. (MY rad no longer has provisions for the cooler)
