Tremec TKO kit
Has anyone ever bought and installed one of the Tremec TKO kits from classicchevy5speed.com? Cause my old TH350 is getting tired and would like to make it a manual with overdrive easily.

Re: Tremec TKO kit
I've got one in my '67. It fits nicely and shifts like a dream. It's behind a ZZ4 350 and with a 3.73 rear end I am running around 2200 rpm at 75 mph. I am thinking on changing the gearing to 4.11's when I put the posi in. Its a very nice swap, but you will need a high hump for the tranny.

Re: Tremec TKO kit
Thanks. Yeah I figured I'd have to switch To the high hump. Good thing I have a 4 speed parts truck and my truck has a Dana 60 in it and 4.11's. Haven't checked if has posi yet though.

Re: Tremec TKO kit
Well after getting a price quote from them I think I'm just gonna look for a Muncie or Saginaw to put in for a whole lot cheaper cause $3,720 is way more than I'm willing to spend.

Re: Tremec TKO kit
A Muncie or Saginaw is not an overdrive trans. If you want a cheap overdrive manual, check out the T5 transmission. Add up the cost of a bellhousing, clutch, linkage, etc. and the Hurst kit starts to sound pretty good. If you're putting any kind of power in front of it (300+ horsepower), a Tremec TKO is the only game in town.
I picked up a T5 for $200 and used the stock Saginaw bellhousing and new McLeod clutch in my '68. Worked great behind a stock 307. http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t...ssion_install/ Last edited by RManson; 04-04-2013 at 01:30 AM. Reason: url incorrect |

Re: Tremec TKO kit
Yeah I know that. Well I did see a NV4500 on craigslist but it was for a Dodge and I know there are differences but no clue how much it would cost to make it work for me.

Re: Tremec TKO kit
I would not put a T5 in a truck with 4.10s (especially if you're talkin about your 3/4 ton truck). Fine behind a mild 2wd small block that won't see heavy duty, but not much more. A GREAT trans, I put one in my 66 and REALLY enjoyed it, but if your C20 or GMC 2500 is the truck in question here - I'd consider something more beefy. I understand you want to go manual - but a 2004R would sur be a neat swap in place of your TH350.
