What do you think of this exhaust

I have a 79 stepside with Hooker 2452 headers

http://www.jegs.com/i/Hooker+Headers/520/16523/10002/-1

Will these fit my short bed?

And why do they say this exhaust fits my headers? Headers are 2.5" exhaust is 2.25"

Wanted an X pipe how hard would it be to add one?

Thanks

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

The headers may be bigger but the exhaust has a neck down section.
If you want an x pipe system pypes makes one about 2.5 and 3" pipe diameters but expect to pay double

You can just add an h pipe and get very similar results though
It's a good kit. I may get it for one of my trucks

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

I used that kit on my 81 swb with a summit h pipe kit. Fit good I put it together with summit band clamps rather than the supplied u bolts.

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

Check out the site vendors here for captkaos. He has a stainless kit made up that he sells for a 4x2 shortbed. Or check out this link for universal x pipe kits from jegs. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...ance+Pipe+Kits

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

Is it really worth it to put an x pipe in? And will that hooker exhaust fit my short bed?

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

IMO the x pipe may be hard to put into the hooker system due to the difference in the bends in each side. The h pipe i put in fit fine. Yes I have a short bed and it fits fine. You just cut the piece of pipe to length that goes between the muffler and the tail pipe.

Here are some installed pics of my system to give you an idea of what I was saying about the X pipe.

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

Magnaflow did a test a few years back and showed that they received better numbers with an H pipe than with an X pipe, but both were better than stock. I used an H pipe on my setup. You get better exhaust flow and even sound distrubution with both. Also helps you hear the cam separation. As for fitment, the bolt flange will be the same on both sides. Pipe size doesn't matter. My collectors are 3.5", but my exhaust is 3". If you have any local exhaust shops, they are usually the best place to look.

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

Call me crazy, but I like a dual exhaust with the sides unconnected. To me, the sound just has more of a thump to it and I like the "stereo" sound you get. I've had several different exhausts with and without H pipes, and every time the system was without an H pipe the sound just did it for me.

It all boils down to personal preference though. I say just run whatever sounds like music to your ears and puts as smile on your face, that is the exhaust that is truly worth it.

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

I awalys run a 2 into 1 deal. My latest setup has Doug's tri- y longtubes, Flowmaster 2 1/2 spun cats, dual 2 1/2 to single 3 inch Magnaflow collector, single 3 inch flowmaster muffler and 3 inch tailpipe.
It's compact, tucks neatly between frame rails and sounds incredible. .

Re: What do you think of this exhaust

my 78 4X4 useing walker setup could fit a H in there(had tails,not anymore)

my 79 4X2 "Speedy" custom bent 2.25 with a 2" H (sounds awesome)

I'd get it in,then get a shop to make the H after?
