400 w/Transfer case Vs 700 r4 w/transfer case

Which is better to run in my 65 4x4 I have an 82 400 w/transfer case,and a 85 700R4 w/ transfer case. Which one would perform better for my 65 4x4 for street use. I'm running 350 v8

Re: 400 w/Transfer case Vs 700 r4 w/transfer case

Its all according to what you are after. If you are driving long distances, the 700r4 would be the better choice because it has overdrive. It will reduce the rpms on your motor and increasing fuel mileage.
The 400 is a tougher transmission and will put up with more abuse but its still a 3 speed trans. So the fuel mileage will go down and the rpms on the motor will be higher.

Don't know much about the R4. The 400 is super tough though. Towing a lot? 400. Seldom towing? R4. I do like overdrive though!
