finally got my Heavy Half decals

Well it took me 6 months but I finally got some heavy half decals reproduced

I had an original one for them to use as a guide and they matched the font and colors identical. Its a complicated decal to say the least. It has metallic silver with chrome border, flat black and couple shades of outer border in grays.

cost me a small fortune

(The decals look dull but keep in mind they have that sheet on top that you remove when applying)

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

Thanks, I actually had to pay extra for them to duplicate the font and design but I own the file so guess it was worth it.

It's all smooth not layers upon layers where you can feel edges. Kinda funny that they had a hard time making something in 2013 that was made originally with 1970's technology.

Those are really nice. I'll bet you could recoup some of your expense by selling those on ebay.

Was the "expensive price" them digitizing the decal or simply making them? If the former you could probably sell them for a reasonable price on here because there is a market. Just keep the digital file for yourself.

Someone needs to do this with the BIG10 decals. I'm sure there are plenty of people that want those as well.

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

Did you just have a local decal shop do this for you? Also if you have it on file are they going to do them cheaper if needed since they don't have to do all the matching again. I don't need any just wondering if there would be a price difference.

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

If you have the file now, any local sticker/decal shop that prints their decals should be able to replicate them. With the chrome outline in there they'll be printing the decals on chrome vinyl, allowing that bit of chrome to show through. Make sure they are laminated, if they're not, go back to that shop or another local shop and have them laminated, it'll add years to their longevity.

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

If you spread the NRE over 30-50 would the price be reasonable enough to generate sales? Or is the actual printing/material in the stratosphere?

yes I have the file. These are not printed on the chrome, they offered that but I didnt want it to be shiny on other colors as the black is a flat and grays are a semi gloss. I matched and hand picked each vinyl color myself from their books with samples. These were made at a professional company that makes signs even the decals that cover entire vehicles etc.

I'd be interested in the method they used. Theres pretty much only two ways to do it, layer them or print them. This is what I do for a living, though I mostly focus on boat lettering. I did boat/vehicle wraps and printed media previously, I moved away from that and downsized so I no longer print. I hand lay the decals, theres a lot more longevity to be had in calendered/cast vinyl, it also doesn't have to be laminated as theres no ink to fade.

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

Where is the place that made them? Reason I ask is I finally after searching for literlly years have 2 COMPLETE sets of original stripe decals that go on my 87.

supposely I have the last 2 sets that was in the us search dealerships across the US through other dealerships if theres more out there they're not in a system to search for even outside of GM.

So, I thought about taking one set to a decal shop and see if they can duplicate it so far no shop around me can do it 100% they can't get the turn down right and how the stripe narrow on the front fender.

I have about $750 in is set! it was hard to do but when I repaint the truck etc I want it right.

Re: finally got my Heavy Half decals

The late 70's Chevy sport decals are another rare item that isn't reproduced yet. Finding a good example set at any price is the tough part.
