What would you do?
just picked up my 71 SWB and im wanting to get some wheels and lower it asap. Here is my situation. I plan on working some o.t. this winter to save up for all of my porterbuilt suspension with the plans of an early spring install. I just have an itch to do something now so i can enjoy it this summer. I have $1,500 on hand right now and was wondering what you guys think I should do. Should i buy my wheels and tires and do a 5.5/7 static drop now or should i skip the whole coil spring thing and buy spindles and a cheap bag set up. I figure at least i could still use the bags once i get my PB stuff, but if i go the spring route ill have basically wasted 200 bucks on springs that i wont be able to use once i do go with PB suspension on air. I just need some help guys. Can i get as low as a 5.5/7 static with just spindles and bags and blocks?? Help me figure out the best way to spend this money. New to this game so i need some help.

Re: What would you do?
Get drop Spindles for sure. You can use them with your pb stuff later. Make sure you plan ahead and order early. Good luck..

Re: What would you do?
You don't say if its spring or leaf rear, but heres what I would do. Buy spindles up front and cut a coil off your stock spring. In the rear if its leaf, do a flip. If its coil do a bag. The only thing wasted when you get your PB parts is mainly labor.

Is it drivable now? If so I'd just run it like it is until you get the money saved up to do what you really want to do to it. Doing things twice (or more) is a big time and money waster!
Drive it around and go to shows, enjoy it! |

Re: What would you do?
Thanks for the replies so far guys. Sorry i forgot to mention, yes it is a coil spring rear end, and here is another issue. I believe the factory coils were all heated to lower to its current state. Should i just leave the suspension alone and go get the wheels i want or start with the suspension. How low can i go with spindles, bags and a notch and blocks in the rear end?

In all seriousness this is the smartest thing you could do based on what you said.

N2TRUX hit the nail on the head,See if you can swing the cash to bag the rear then do the front later on.
