Re: Transmission cooler

I've heard they work well in conjunction with the in-rad cooling loop, or if mounted in a high-flow area.

Any idea if they can be used as an alternative to the radiator? I've thought about using one of these but there's not a lot of info on them out there

If you intend on running a stand alone cooler (I chose to, my radiator didn't have a provision for the trans), I would go with a "radiator style" FAN COOLED unit. Most unit don't get enough airflow to completely cool the trans themselves, especially being mounted behind a radiator. Keep in mind that standing still, a non-fan cooler gets no air movement and will diminish any cooling ability it afforded. Sitting in a staging lane with your trans cooking isn't fun.

Re: Transmission cooler

I've had a couple of folks say these new heat sink style work well enough to be a stand alone. Not sure I believe it...so I thought I'd try adding one and/or use it for something else if needed.

Re: Transmission cooler

Its a weird angle, and I can't get a picture with the bumer on. Its in between the front frame horns facing down.

My build has a couple more pics of the install.

What's the part number and price? Have you put a temp gauge on it to see how it cools?

Oh your just assuming I have a massive archival of every cent I've spent on the truck?

I totally do;
from jegs

259-13270 electra cool trans cooler 145.99 (1)
555-100001 #6 Straight hose end 4.99 (2) 9.98
555-100021 # 6 90* hose end 11.99 (2) 23.98
555-100911 #6 Hose 6ft 26.99 (2) 53.98

Plus the specialized 4l80e style AN fittings, but I had to order those elsewhere, I can dig up the source if need be.

I don't have a trans temp gauge but I can tell in stop and go traffic that it helps a good bit. Trans keeps cooler so I notice a little slower buildup of heat in the engine bay in traffic/staging etc.

Re: Transmission cooler

mine has a fan switch that comes on at 180* as for how hot it gets I'm not sure, but it never usually runs for a long time....

Re: Transmission cooler

Looks like a good unit. I have to be honest, I just used the factory external tranny cooler that the donor escalade came with. I ran the lines to the stock escalade radiator, then to the cooler just like factory. Made some brackets to mount it in front of the AC condensor. The little I have driven the truck around it stays right around 160-175. About the same as my 2012 tahoe tranny does.

Re: Transmission cooler

I don't put mine through the radiator, so anything less than fan cooled and I wouldn't be doing myself any favors.
