Got a bit of throwback on the truck this week... I wanted to double check the casting no on the engine, just to verify the Previous Owner.

Well.. I found out that the engine is not a 350 as said - it's a 307.. I haven't looked on the heads yet to see what is done there.
I shoulda done this while lookin at the truck but I was too novice at the time..

The power steering isn't working and it's leaking in the output shaft. I hope that the issues are just new sealings (already purchased) and will be installed soon I hope..

So some disappointments..

Other stuff then..
I got a steering column from a 70s burb that ill use for it.

And I'm got a glimpse of an 86 chevy Van that i can get for nearly nothing and my idea is to use parts from it, like wiring, air heater, rear axle etc..
Any opinions on this??

307 isn't all that bad... If you want to make it a real hotrod later on then order a crate engine (383 stroker) and hang on!

As for parts, it really depends on what you want to do with the truck in the future. I'd suggest buying items from here and shipping them (wiring harnass, rear end etc..) just because new products will be cheaper in the long run than something used like that.

If you become a board subscriber then you can post Wanted to Buy (WTB) ads in the parts section. A lot of times guy will donate used items on the forum.

The rear axle from the van will be much too wide for your truck.

The 307's are not a bad engine. They just did not have much power originally, and therefore got a bad reputation with a lot of guys. They are still a small block Chevy, and they do respond to the typical upgrades such as heads, cam, intake, carburator, ignition, etc. There are a couple threads on this forum about building a 307. They are certainly a better engine than a 305.
