Man if it was me, I would rip everything to do with wiring the hell out ther, because yours is extremely gayed up and get an umolested or relatively un molested wirng harness from your truck. I am just curious to know how that alternator is even hooked up?. Is the external regulator still hooked up?

hmm. before id do that i think i would buy wiring harnesses. the wiring is awful. i get sparks if the turn signal lever touches the column. THAT IS BAD! im thinkign about buying new wiring harness but that would cost some $$

These truck's cost money period.... I may have a harness but would have to look. The way to look at is this you need a good harness as to not have a fire so get a wiring diagram and jump into it unless you are not comfortable with it,then pay a PROFESSIONAL to do the job right so the truck does not burn to the ground..

We all got to start somewhere don't sound like you could screw it up any worse than it is now. I am sure some one on the part's board could help you out with a new harness for cheap..

Yeah Dinnut,

It's great to see a younger guy with your initiative. Not leaning on the parents to do everything for you and sitting around doing nothing. When I was your age and got my first vehicle my dad was never there to help, when he was he just messed things up worse

. I picked up a Chiltons manual and taught myself how to repair my car. Get some books. Haynes manuals have good wiring diagrams in them(the older ones are better, go to half price books and buy used). Everything on your harness is color coded, not to hard once you get the idea.

To bad you are so far from me, I would be glad to give you a hand.

i have the chilton for 70-79 trucks i think it is. i dont do all the work my self. if its a bigger job my moms friend helps me. my mom said if he wasnt willing to help me she wouldnt have bought my trucks. i am learning A LOT compared to if i would have bought a newer truck. between the 2 trucks weve done alot. starter, motor mounts, tune up on both trucks, new carbeuretor that cracked and we ended up buying a second one and replacing the bottom of the crappy holly 2 barrell with a steel junkyard bottom... i think i will get out there and start to work some. it is freezing cold here though. im leaving tomorrow and wont be back till saturday. ill be able to do more then

there is also this drain. i think/know it is coming from the turn signal lever. it sparks if the lever touches the column. when i touched the negative batery cable to the battery i could hear it sparking... need to get that fixed. im gonna look into used wiring harnesses.
