Re: washer pump help
Most people don't have success when rebuilding a washer pump, same with using a repro pump.
My repro pump had worked fine for NOW, but I don't know about a year from now. Honestly I'd say your best bet is to rig up a separate electrical pump and wire it to the normal switch.

Re: washer pump help
I've done it on my 68 GMC but didn't last long. Seems like the small rubber parts we get now are not very high quality. I even tried rebuilding the motor since it was only running at slow speed and turned out to be more of a pain than I expected. As a last resort, I bought a new motor and converted by installing a separate electric pump. Uses the same power on the wiper switch when pushing it in.

Re: washer pump help
Unless you're dead-set on the original pump, the S-10 pump is a great upgrade. I mounted mine in the same place the original tank sat and wired it into the washer switch. It works 100 times better than the original pump ever did.

Re: washer pump help
go to a junkyard and look under the hood of any chevy truck from 80-2000 and they have a nice setup. easy to yank out and it has the pump in the bottle.
get the harness as well. |

Re: washer pump help
I just put in an aftermarket pump setup based on this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=489265 It's a bit louder than I'd like, and you have to hold the button in while it is spraying, but for the first time since I've owned my truck, fluid comes out of the jets. I had tried and tried to make that Rube Goldberg contraption that the General put in these trucks work, to no avail. BTW Napa seems to have changed vendors, and is using a different pump now. I got one at Autozone. The vendor who makes them is TAAP and their part # is 9-300. |

Re: washer pump help
That is exactly what I thought about it when I first tore into one. When I bought my 69 back in late 80's, the pump worked really well but it made a loud thumping noise. At first I thought it was something going out on it until I realized that's the way it was designed.
