Cirtique my bed flange repair idea please!

Making progress on my bed rebuild for my long fleet. The flanges on the inner bedsides that sit on top of the wood are rough (think angle strips on Stepsides). So, I have come up with the plan to fix. A simple angle piece, 1"x"1" with the appropriate holes. Probably bolted to the bed sides.

Have a look at my diagram that I came up with, and let me know if there is anything that should be changed/deleted/added. I would like to take this to the metal store tomorrow.

seems good, is 1 inch up the side enough to cover the rough stuff?

Yes, no rust on the vertical part at all, just the horizontal part that touched the wet wood. Not sure if I should put the new pieces in front or behind the metal.

Also, 16ga or 18ga?

I would just note the left and right sides. If you make 2 identical pieces you will either have 2 lefts or 2 rights,of each part in referrence to the bolts spacing.

I am sure you already allowed for that, just ementioning because it wasn't noted on drawing.

Very good planning/detail, tho!

Re: Cirtique my bed flange repair idea please!

I did something similar to this on a lower bed flange a couple years ago. I drew up what I wanted and had the pieces laser cut out of 18 ga. including the square holes. Then I formed them to a 90* and welded them into the bed.
