Exhaust Manifold

I am putting a 2004 5.3 V8 in my 85 pick-up and I want to know if I am going to be able to use my stock exhaust manifolds. I have heard of people having problems on the right side. I am using the dirty dingo adjustable mounts. If anyone has used these mounts on this swap.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

The standard trucks style manifolds have a "bump" on them that usually hit the frame rail on most swaps. In some cases if you have a good amount of frame clearance, you can just grind back the bump to get it to fit, but I've rarely seen that be the solution. Most folks start looking at the tubular f-body manifolds, tbss manifolds, doug thorley's, or a handful of other header options that work.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

My right side doesn't fit. I went to Competition sales today and saw some headers I'm thinking about going with. There's a set of manifolds on Craigslist that look like tbss was going to meet him tomorrow but now I'm not sure. I'm useing the same towers as your year with dd adjustable mounts

Re: Exhaust Manifold

The early tubular f body manifolds fit some years, but i think the egr ports are actually what interferes with fitment.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

Thanks BR3W CITY, I saw a great deal on CL for manifolds and cats. Glad I asked. There are a couple of LS6 center dump manifolds for sale also, I am fairly certain they clear.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

I used 99 F-body manifolds and they have plenty of clearance, although I did have to use block off plates for the egr.

Thanks, I must have a set of straight six stands. I'm going to try to cut and weld mine to clear, as most of the ones I've seen turn up for sale are the same design.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

Pretty sure I started with the 6cyl stands myself, I moved them forward to a new location and welded them in.
