ac question

Using the factory 5.3 compressor with vintage air how much freon will it take? I charged it to 2 lbs and the compressor constantly is cycling on and off. To low of freon?

Re: ac question

can't say... but too much high side pressure might do that.

Re: ac question

Yes I had a guy fill it with gauges. So to little freon wouldn't cause it to cycle?

Re: ac question

Hi 68 fixeruper, The old rule of thumb is approximately the temp of the day plus 100psi. Example= 90 degree day plus 100= high side when compressor is engaged would equal 190psi. Also vintage air may have an inline sight glass, and the old rule of thumb is fill until sight glass bubbles just clear up and then 2-3 more ounces. This is memory recall as i was a dealer mechanic for 30 plus years and i have been out of the trade for a while. If member "clinebarger" gets on here he will be spot on, trannys and ac are his specialty, currently working in the field i suspect. Good luck, Brian Fuller

Would you mind giving me some info on your setup? I am looking at a 70 with a 5.3 and no A/C. I was considering using the vintage air kit with the LS compressor. Did you use the truck brackets? What issues did you have with the installation?
