dana transfer case
Hey guys, I have a 70 blazer with a four spd manual and apparently a dana transfer case. Apparently, too much throttle snapped the output shaft. Does anyone have any info on these cases? Parts availability etc.. I don't know much about them. Would it be better to replace the shaft, or should I just look for a different transfer case? Thanks, Willie

What engine do you have?
Transfer case is a Dana 20, and IIRC they are fairly common transfers, not in Blazers but more so in Jeeps and maybe Scouts. Good luck.

Dana t-case
I have 2 Dana 20's. I used to have one in my Blazer. I replaced it with a 4-speed 205. So a Dana 20 will also bolt up to a 4-speed? Cause I thought they just came behind 3-speed manuals. Is the transmission to T-case adapter the same for all manuals? Sorry to butt in on your post.

I also read that the dana's were only behind a 3 spd, but apparently they also were with the four spd with granny low. What did you have to change when you put in your 205, blazomatic?

Nothing. I lucked up and found a guy that had the whole set up for sale in the local paper. He rolled his '71. I got the trans, t-case, cross members, shifters and all. I took my 3-speed out and put in the four speed. I used my 3-speed cross member cause it was in better shape. My drive shafts worked. From what I've heard the Dana 20 was fairly common in 4x4 Blazers. Behind the 6 cyclinders and the 307 (like I have). Another member has the 3-speed and Dana 20 for sale $100 I think. I have one I would get rid of but I'm kinda far away. You could probably find one closer.

Thanks for the info, blazomatic. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I have been thinking about putting an auto in it sometime anyway, this might have forced my hand. I have a parts truck with a TH350 and NP203 so I might try to stick that in. It is good to know that a 205 might fit behind the 4spd without changing driveshafts though. Thanks again- Willie
