2008 Z-71 What would you do?

Here is my 2008 Z-71. I have had it since about last October and it has about 50k miles on it. I have not really done any upgrades to it and to be honest don't really know what there is to do. I drive a lot so I don't want to jack it up and put big tires on it or anything that will drastically bring my gas mileage down.

It is time for some new tires though.

What are some upgrades that are easy to do that could help performance, looks, etc?

If it was yours......what might you do to it?

I have the same truck and I bought a leveling kit for the front and I'm going to put 33s on it. I know you said you don't want bigger tires, because they can hurt your mileage but actually 33s won't. Also for HP gains, I would do headers, CAI, and a tune and I imagine she will respond very well. I plan to do those things to mine, but I'm waiting to run out of warranty first.

a cold air and a good performance exhaust system. and a good tune. and how about some factory 20 inch wheels? and drive it.

For tires go with Toyo ATII



Add a K&N cold air intake ...



Add a stanless exhaust ... Magnaflow



And finally get a Dyno tune.... make sure they know what they're doing... you should get more HP and better MPG ...

Thanks for the info guys. I plan to do some of those things for sure.

As far as the leveling kit......you mean so the back don't sit lower than the front? When I look at my truck it looks like the back sits a little lower which I find strange because it would seem that the rear should sit higher so when you have a load it levels out.

That's very unusual, but I see what you're talking about. I wonder if the original owner cranked up the torsion bars?

Don't know but it was owned by an older guy who bought it new....drove it for 40k miles and then traded it in for a newer one.

I second on the Toyo AT II tires I just did them on my 08' Tahoe and they look mean and are quiet on the road.

I see everyone has their favorites. I would agree on a cold air kit, a better exhaust, and a tune. Now for me, I had a K&N cold air kit and the Inlet air temp was always too high. It is just the way the K&N is designed that makes it that way. The computer was retarding the timing. I installed the Banks cold air kit and it improved the inlet air temps and provided a better air flow than the K&N kit. I also did a set of Kooks long tube headers on my truck, along with their aftermarket 'Y' pipe and a Magnaflow to dual exhaust outlets. I put in and EFI Live tune and the truck runs very well, as a daily driver.

Dual exhaust, Magna Flow muffler with 2 1/4 pipe to tips angle out the corners

nelson performance tune

rancho montube leveling struts part # RS7785 and matching shocks for rear

2 inch body kit

treadwright.com retread all terrain tires

Mickey Thompson classic III's in black

Black nerf bars

Vent visors and hood deflector

Tractor supply black toolbox and dual whip atenna's

Only one of those I am lacking so far is the body lift. Makes for one slick looking truck.

Forgot to ask. How many miles is on your 2008? Curious if you know if there had been an oil consumption issue due to the active fuel management system reported on it prior to you owning the truck. I noticed mine smoking out the exhaust after I put the duals on, I am guessing the exhaust was holding all the oil in the fiber glass of the muffler. Keep an eye on and track your oil consumption between oil changes. GM rebuilt my engine at 96500 miles and added the parts the 09-13 engines have in them to prevent this problem.
