Which function has a Rod Dipper

Hello Everybody

In the catalog from my parts Trader i found a part called Rot Dipper.

On my 1955 Inline 6 i never seen this part....... well according to the catalog of the Trader the part is only used in motors from 1933 until 1953.

Whats the function of this Rod Dipper? Is it a special or bonus part? Is it possible/necessary or helpfull to upgrade the 1955er Inline 6

I hope the bad picture may help you.

Thanks a lot

Geri

Goes on the rod cap to sling oil.

Not used on '54 & later 235, full oil pressure engines. It's why they're preferred over earlier splash oiler engines.

It doesn't sling the oil, it catches the oil thats shot out by the oiling tubes in the pan. 54 was a change year that had 53 style pump and pickup but a 55 style drilled crank.

Your right 54 was an odd ball motor. It had a pan, pump and pickup that was only for 54. It had the lightweight rockers like a 216. It had all the bad things of 216's and early 235's. Vents in valve cover.

Re: Which function has a Rod Dipper

Hey guy´s!

Sorry for the late answer. I was on the road for work for a long time :-/
Thanks a lot for the many informations. It seems, that chevy tried a lot of new opportunities to get better engines .

On the subject of engines: I also measure the Main Bearings and the Rod Bearings with a Plastigage stripe. The clearance is on top of the highest limit. I want to replace them with the next selectable undersize.
On the main bearings its a stamp with 002". What is the next undersize to minimize the clearance 001" or 003". Sorry for the supid question. With counting the oversize i have no problems. But how is it counted by undersize????
Is more also more or is it getting less???

PS: Seukendorf is a little village in Bavaria/Germany. Not so far to the Octoberfest in Muinch
