They gave me the wrong belts! again

Decided to replace all 3 belts on my 78 350CI,did this 10 years ago and the parts place did the same thing! for some reason all the part places get it wrong!why, any ways the old belts still have life in them and the truck just drives in the town here,no hi speed driving, did change the coolant after 5 years ,so not all was lost! now just need to return those new belts for some gas money!Bahahahah!

the part number is on the belts
dont leave the store without matching the numbers,
your water pump belt looks like it sits in the pully groove to low.

Re: They gave me the wrong belts! again

Vee belt part numbers are typically 5 digit.

The first two numbers are the belt width
The last three is length

Example 15445

The 15 is the width. 445 means its 44.5 inches long.

Say you needed a belt an inch shorter. You'd ask for a 15435. Four inches longer would be a 15495 etc. knowing this, you can tailed your exact lengths to get them adjusted to suit you.

Along with the belt numbers as mentioned above, I've always practiced just taking the belt in with me and making damn sure it matches. IF it doesn't match, they can march their *ss back to the hooks and find the right one. That's what I did at O'reilly, no reason they can't.

Re: They gave me the wrong belts! again

I've always had issues with the belts on this truck, someone added A/C to it a long time ago and added brackets and stuff that messed the whole equation up.
the pulleys need to be balanced or replaced, while running the whole mess is unbalanced, even the harmonic balancer, oil pressure is fine 60psi, so don't think the main bearing are an issue?
