1964 gmc taillight problems

I'm new on the forum so take it easy on me guys I just picked up my first real project a 64 gmc 1000 all original short bed fleet side it runs but I'm having a problem with the lights the headlights and dash lights work but no taillights or the lights in the hood I checked the taillights with a voltmeter and was getting around 12 volts and tried a few different bulbs but no running light brake light or blinker nothing and its got me stumped any help is greatly appreciated

there's about 15 forums here about checking and making sure everything has good grounds. These trucks are horrible about tail lights not working. May have to run ground wires from the tail light housings to the frame. I would install a ground strap from the engine to the frame. Also a 10ga wire from the frame to the bed sheet metal is not a bad idea.

Yea I've already fixed the one from the battery to the engine and added one from the battery to body but are the front turn signals tied in with the taillights?

WE SOLDERED A GROUND WIRE TO EACH LIGHT HOUSING AND THEN GROUNDED THEM THROUGH A GROUNDING BLOCK TO THE FRAME. Don't count on the lights grounding through the body, this is a simple fix and you will not have any problems with the lights in the future. Kieth

here is a bad picture of the grounding block at the rear of the truck. We also installed one in the front of the truck .....

remember each light has to ground from the light housing thru the body and then to the frame, I just got rid of all the potential problem areas by taking each light housing to ground directly....by installing the grounding block. The lights will be brighter than they have ever been after you do this. Kieth

Thanks man that's what I'm thinking just take everything to the frame and be done I hope

Thanks a lot for the link I traced down a few ground issues and fixed them taillights are perfect now just the passenger side front blinker still not working but for my first 60's model I sure am loving it
