Door speaker install- how to?

My '73 has cut outs in the doors for 5-1/4" speakers. I just bought a set to install but I can't figure out how to run the wires in to the cab. I don't see a hole in the cab to run it through. Any ideas?

Go to the wrecking yard and pull a truck apart that had PW, PL and use the original boot from it. measure the holes and cut it exactly like they are and it will give it a more factory look. Just an idea.

+1

once you get the boots (available aftermarket or oem still), problem is you gotta remove the door to do it right. if you look at the door jamb on the cab AND the door, you might see 3 little indention on both, the middle hole is for the wires while the other 2 (top and bottom) are for rivets or screws to hold the boots to the door/cab

it is worth the extra work, in the mean time locate the indention and drill small 1/4 hole, run your wires and put some of that flex wire saver crap you get at the parts house on it, and a rubber grommet to keep from cutting the wires on the newly drilled holes.

I don't see a problem with the way you gained access as long as that isn't your truck that you did that to! LMAO JK

Re: Door speaker install- how to?

If i remember right i think Motornut had a little help from a drunk driver. While we are on the subject of installing speakers in the doors. Has anyone tried the Boom Mat speaker baffles? http://www.designengineering.com/cat...peaker-baffles

Those baffles are good for keeping your speaker dry, cut the backs out of em though.

I've seen people use heavy plastic sheeting/sealer instead of those type much better the plastic sheets just shred

I had a set of these in one of my trucks forever ago, they were not this brand but similar, and i believe they may have been a factory item from another car installed by the PO of that truck. they seemed to work, i didn't own it long enough to say if they worked good or bad.
