Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
I just picked up a complete 2004 5.3 for my 1967 and would like to keep the factory LS fan/fan clutch. I have seen a few builds where the LS fan was kept and used with the factory SBC fan shroud. Which motor mounts are you guys using to get everything to fit?

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
The adapter plates are the most common, used on top of the old v8 engine stands. For those running a less conventional setup, or a 4wd, the dirty dingo's are popular, though more expensive.

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
When I did mine it took a few trials and errors. I did not use anyones mounts as mine was 4X4 and nobody had anything at the time. I had to install the engine, transmission, radiator and shroud and tack everything up (I welded an engine mount crossmember set up). In the end I was a little off and my fan hit the top of the shroud causing the fan to stop and overheating to happen. Reading other forums I ended up using a ford explorer fan clutch. Some use the whole assembly as it is shorter and screws right onto the water pump. I just used the fan and bolted it to my water pump assembly. I had to open up the holes on the explorer fan to make it work. I used mine that way for 4 years in 100 degree heat in traffic and never once got hot let alone overheated.
If you are going to use someones adapter plates you will not have much choice where your fan ends up. There are a lot of builds on this site and you will have to do some reading but I bet there are a few guys using the clutch fan with their LS install. I must have done 100s of hours researching and reading before I did mine. There is a lot more info out there now 5 years later so you should be able to find the info your looking for.

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
I can't even remember the name of the motor mounts I used. Please someone start naming off companies that make them. I'm sure I named them in one of my LS swap threads in the Engine and Drivetrain section on here.

Found it. I used TPI parts adapter plates. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=412122

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
I used early classic engineering motor and transmission mounts I highly recommend. I used ss trailblazer exhaust manifolds.

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
I used the stock crossmember on mine, but had to heavily modify the perches that that the mounts bolt up to because the cradle was too narrow for the new mounts and adapter plates. As soon as I was able to line everything up and bolt it, I was surprised how perfectly the stock fan lined up with the small block fan shroud that I had used with a big block as well. Like it was meant to be that way.

Re: Factory Fan / Fan Clutch
Hi Madmartigan, i installed a 2001 5.3/4l65e in my 68 c10. I used the 2001 motor mounts ( didn't want to use old style 68 mounts on brackets that went up on the sides of the frame). I used the 2001 fan and fan clutch inside my 68 307 v8 factory shroud. I can't clear the tip of my pinky between the tips of the fan and the inside of the frame. No overheating pulling a 3,000 lb airstream in 90+ heat. I used the 2001 aluminum radiator with slight radiator core support mods to make it work. I'm glad i made my own low slung motormount brackets because my tight tuck headers (for 68 and up nova from sanderson) fit nice. I will be installing trailblaser low slung a/c compressor soon and won't have to worry about motor mount brackets in the way of the a/c compressor. Also i don't have any witness marks of the fan hitting the shroud either. Good luck, Brian F.
