Driver side door is jammed shut. Not sure how to open it.

Has this happened to anyone before? I locked my door and now I cant get it opened. I have manual locks and windows. And the plunger that you push down to lock the door will not lift up all the way to unlock. I've taken the door panel off and i can't figure out what it is.

Snap the door handle inside and pull up on the lock at the same time

Re: Driver side door is jammed shut. Not sure how to open it.

Yeah these are a bit daunting at first glance. there are 2 rods inside that lock or unlock and one that runs the door handle.

if you have power locks, find the actuator, down in the bottom to the rear of the door and move the rod that is connected to it, but it sounds like you are manual so that probably not so lucky.

i am sure you have tried to unlock the door with the key? maybe your better half can twist the key while you pull up on the rod inside the door?

they really are simple devices once you figure out what is what, but as I86 said above, try both the inside door handle and lift on the inside lock rod at the same time.

some times the bear claw just jams and bumping the door out (like opening it but without so much force) might be enough to un jam the mechanism.

best of luck!

the driver side actually doesnt have a lock cylinder in it at the moment, due to the truck kinda being a project. But I'll give it a try. appreciate it. A lot of work i need to to to the truck can't be done until i get this door open.

OUCH! sounds like your in a pickle. sounds like the door may be locked from the lock cylinder rod to the latch, sometimes on the older trucks with loose internals the cylinder lock rod is heavy enough to lock the door on its own. if the rod is there use it to maybe unlock the door? it sounds like it is locked rather than jammed, perhaps the rod is wedged in the lock position preventing an unlock situation? just a thought.

keep us updated during your trials.

Re: Driver side door is jammed shut. Not sure how to open it.

I have a similar problem, i haven't taken the door apart yet. Same thing happens with mine where it won't unlock by pulling up on the plunger. The trick i've learned is that if i push in on the exterior door handle button once then try to unlock the door it works every time. It's a little embarrassing when this happens and you're in the truck and have to crank down the window to push the button but it gets the job done. If you figure out the issue make sure to post it with pics so i can copy you! Good luck!

Happened to my passenger door. Door was junk so took a grinder and cut the outside skin along te body line. Cut hole i inside. Removed the post that bolts to the cab door came open. Unbolted old door bolted on new door. Prolly not your best option but that was mine lol
