Thanks truckdude, but one has to be the supply and the other the return, this engine is in a 66 truck with the 5.3 and a vintage air conditioning

Re: Water pump outlet to heather

Okay I put mine into my 71 so one port on my heater core was larger and matched the port on the pump and same for the other one I haven't run it yet

Some one may correct me if im wrong but the smaller 5/8 line is on the back side of the t stat wich tells me it is the pressure side ( also the fact that its smaller usually indicates higher press) the 3/4 is on the front side of t stat wich because of size and location tells me its a return. I also think this because you would have no flow to heater core till the t stat opened if it were the other way around. But again this is just a guess on my part lol

Sorry but my engine compartment is dirty from Georgia clay and Florida sand.

Obviously one is feed. One is return.

big one = return
little one = feed

Now that im looking at you pic im thinking they both may be on the back side of t stat but i still think the 5/8 is feed. Ill see if i cant dig up the lsx water flow diagram on the net caus i used it to figure out how to plum my overflow bottle into the heater lines, this is why i keep thinking the 5/8 is feed caus it seems like that how i remember it. Im sure a guru will chime in soon

Re: Water pump outlet to heather

im not sure... i have a replacement water pump and i think my casting is bad. i have little to no heat in the truck.... not a big issue when im in florida... but i froze my azz off when i went to chicago for the holidays to hang out with my kids... its pissing me off as well... i eat about 1/2 gallon every 6 months of anti freeze... i find no leaks,(die black light) holds pressure, no exhaust fumes bubbling in coolant, no signs on plugs... but every once in a while i smell steaming coolant... thinking it may be a dodgy pressure cap.

or it could be seeping into the intake somehow and leaning out the fuel mixture but still being burned... i dont know enough about my engine to know off the top of my head every coolant port inside the motor and where they may leak.

i was the guy at the factory that dealt with quad 4's and the 3.4 twin dual ohd motors... and other assorted items for PMD...

the return seems like it needs to be ported to the other side of the tstat for flow to actually happen...

Might be interpretive, but perhaps that diagram just indicats a tee in the heater line where the pressure tank connects. I don't interpret this as meaning the heater hose goes straight to the tank.

Due to the fact the water pump in the diagram exits the wrong side i would say you are correct. But just to squash any misconseptions. I currently have no heater core in the hot rod. I did not want a short loop so i did run a tee right at the overflow and my feed runs up to it and back down. It works fine does not suck the tank dry or pump it full stays the same level. I originally had the tank plumed into the lower rad hose and for what ever reason was getting air pockets and over heating . The new pluming stays about 199* just ideling.

Re: Water pump outlet to heather

The heater shut off goes in the small hose, the rear fitting on the engine, if that's what you're asking.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Water pump outlet to heather

That is designed for sealed radiators that use a remote surge tank (kinda like using the ps pumps that have a remote resevoir). If your radiator has a cap with a pressure rating, then your don't need that. The idea is that it keeps some extra fluid and give the fluid a place to go under. It also helps keep a full radiator since it hold extra fluid that can drain into the rad if it gets low.

Most of us have a regular capped radiator. You fill the rad, and run an overflow so it has a safe place to dump if it overheats. We would have to manually add coolant or water if the rad got low, but you also don't have to place and plumb an extra tank underhood.
