steel wheel question
I bought a Speedways disc brake upgrade kit from a board member for my 1950 3100. It has 5-lug rotors on it. I called Speedway and they do not sell 6-lug rotors that interchange with their kits.
I want to put on original-looking wheels and keep the original rear axle, and I'm wondering what my options are: - Can I source 6-lug rotors that will work with this kit? - Can I get identical-looking 5-bolt wheels for the front and 6-lugs for the rear? - Do I need to have a machine shop re-drill the rotors? - Or should/can I change out the rear drums to 5-bolt? As always, the help and knowledge of the members of this board is much appreciated. |

If you stay with a steel wheel with a hub cab you can get them to match. Summit sells a lot of wheels with 5 and 6 bolt patterns. Problem is what are you going to do for a spare?

stock 6 lugs wheel won't fit around the caliper without spacers and 6 lug wheels are harder to source.
not sure what wheels you have, look at wheelvintiques.com for a good selection of steel wheels

So ogre, what did you do with the rear axle to convert it to 5-bolt? That's my dilemma - I'd like to keep the driveline as original as possible.

I believe you can purchase a template and have the rotors drilled to match the 6 lug pattern. Bear in mind that it's possible the stock wheels may not clear the calipers. Found that one out the hard way! Good luck!

Thanks coffeeman and others. The truck currently doesn't have the stock wheels on it (has later 15's) and my plan is to eventually buy some Wheel Vintiques for it, so I'll bear the clearances in mind. In the mean time I'm going to just get the existing drums hooked back up and leave the disc upgrade until I start on the "big project" next year. I'll also talk to the local machine shop about drilling out the rotors so I can be 6-bolt all around.

You can get 5 lug axles for the rear end and go with a stk looking steel wheel all around with caps. I think Speedway sells the axles, if not call Moser.
