My new 65 stepside!
Today I bought a '65 chevy stepside with 230 I6 from a friend. I also got a '77 suburban he had bought for parts to convert the '65 to disc brakes and power steering. All of this for $900. I put a battery in it and got it started within minutes. He had bought it a couple of years ago and drove it home, but had sat there for about a year. The brake master cylinder was empty, so we put some fluid in and gave it a few pumps (my thigh is still burning) and the brakes began to work. I drove it around the block. Someone had moved the shifter to the floor with a crappy floor cut job. My friend had put a drivers seat from a Chrysler Sebring convertible with integral seat belt. The passenger seat is there but not mounted. Radio hole has been mangled. She has some through rust in the floors and the drivers rear fender. Pictures to follow.

Re: My new 65 stepside!
That looks like a decent truck to work with even though it has a few issues. I like those wheels

Re: My new 65 stepside!
Oh yeah!! Slam it with the burb suspention... Hop up the six with intake/exhaust & hei or have fun with the burb mill if you can. You have a good start with the ingredients to vastly improve the 3 S's (start stop steer)

Hurray from another South Carolina 65 Stepper! Keep it running and soon you'll have the admiration of your neighbors. Help is here on the forum when you need it!

Re: My new 65 stepside!
Thanks guys! I've already taken care of a starting issue. The PO before my friend had two bare wires to touch together to start it due to the keyed switch not working in the start position. My friend added a push button start switch. I took the ign switch and checked all positions with a meter. Checked connection at starter, plugged switch back in. Started with key immediately. I guess it just had a bad connection where the harness plugged in at the switch. So I removed a handful of extra wires and two switches. I want to get her reliable for a daily driver so I'll post updates as I work on her.
