Colors available??

What colors were available in 1949??

I have been digging but cannot find the answer.

I had no idea that many colors were available.

Any idea on build numbers for each?

i dont think they kept records like that, but i suspect a large percentage were Forester Green. thats the color they were typically painted from factory unless ordered otherwise

Forester green was the "standard" color and the reason we see so many that were that color.

My count says that there are eight colors available in 1949. Cape Maroon, Cream Medium, Forester Green, Mariner Blue, Omaha Orange, Secrest Green, Sun Beige, Swift Red and Windsor Blue. You had to pay a couple of bucks extra to get anything except the Forester Green though.

Growing up in the 50's and 60's I remember seeing all of those colors on the AD's except for Omaha Orange. Greens were predominate followed by Mariner Blue, Cream, Beige and Red. Rest were pretty rare.

I was thinking the same thing Orrie, I don't think I ever saw an orange one with original paint when I was a kid. Most were green or blue. One 51 1-1/2 ton I picked up on the hill may have been orange to begin with but I think the orange may have been more popular for the big trucks.

I can't believe that you couldn't get a 49 AD in black.

Yes you could, it was a non-cost option. Jet Black had a silver belt line(around cab).

In the Truck Data Book for salesmen (reprint) that I bought from Jim Carter they list jet Black for 1949 as Option number 234-D and white as option number 234-C and neither shows up in the color code charts.

Of course right after I say how I have never seen a factory orange TF truck, look what I saw this weekend at an estate sale. Grandpa's original 57, was his hunting and fishing rig as is pretty evident. Other step has an 40 gallon aux. gas tank. All original and very little rust. Not for sale, as usually, one of the kids or grandkids wants to "eventually" restore and drive it. I gave them a short lecture on faded paint letting moisture thru, how savable it was, and how fast it would go to crap (but I was nicer). Also gave them a heads up on what I thought it was worth, what it would cost to restore, and my phone number if they wanted to get it into the hands of someone who would respect it. IF I got it, quick CLR then clear to perserve it, wouldn't change a thing except find a vintage camper (they already sold it) for it.
