Project: Tombstone (81 K5/2WD)
Well....lets see where this one goes.
Saved this one from a huge graveyard locally as it was in a light accident in the front and tweaked the front of the frame slightly and insurance wrote it off. Easy fix, minimal damage....Traded a bunch of left over parts and carcasses for it....good deal in my books. Plan is to fix it up eventually for the wife (and me ) and just keep things simple on this one at this point. Will be fixing obviously the rust on the rear quarters, very back ledge of the cargo area floor, inner/outer rockers, and of course doors. For this area this thing is in great shape. Just stripped out the interior to give it a good wash and let it dry out before going into storage for a short bit till the crew is done. Pulled out the seats, panels, carpet, console etc tonight and discovered minimal to no rust on the floor area, and a bit across the back of the cargo/gate area. Pulled off the factory plastic on the floors and was near brand new steel underneath. Very happy!!!! This won't be a speedy thread by any means....but will keep updated as progress continues.

Just for kicks I was curious what the original paint would polish up like....who says you can't polish a turd? lmao...actually comes out pretty decent after around 30 seconds or so....not much effort that is for sure.

Re: Project: Tombstone (81 K5/2WD)
Nowhere near as much work as my last K5 was....I had to rebuild everything by hand.
This one ain't bad for around here...even harder finding the 2wd. Guy had no interest in it cause it was a 2 wheeler..."I'll take it" I said...lmao. Gathering up all the parts under the hood that were removed as someone started to strip off stuff....found out it has a fresh rebuild under the hood as well as brand new starter, fuel pump, and alternator along with all the other accessories. Hoping it still runs good as it has been sitting for 2 years now since it was crashed and parked. Should be able to have her running in the next week or so under her own power. Then get parked out back for the winter months till the crew is more underway....Removed all the crap the last owner had mounted to the underdash, back deck, and trailer brake assembly and wiring. Just cleaned it all up so it is back to it's original unmolested state now. As I said, going to keep things fairly simple on this....Even located the matching rear seat out of the truck...guy just wants another one on trade to be able to get it. Here are some pics after she was all washed up and stripped out.....I put everything back in minus carpet and underlay so that she stays dry and cut back on any further rot while awaiting her fate. Also cut out the bad rust areas on the sheetmetal to keep it somewhat at bay as well. Going to be doing full quarters, but wanted to preserve as much of the inner sections as possible. Will spray her down top to bottom with penetrating oil before storage to make life easier later on and hold back the cancer as much as possible.

Neat to see an original Silverado truck without AC. Don't see stuff like that here in AL.

Re: Project: Tombstone (81 K5/2WD)
Ya, around here there are lots with no ac options on the older trucks. No need for it 7 months out of the year hahahaha
