4l60e transmission fluid?

I am about to fire up my 5.3 and 4l60e and need to buy trans fluid. I found the spec shows dex vi. Is this correct? any preferences on what trans fluid you are using?

How many qts. will it take?
Did you remove the pan?
Are you changing the filter?

Re: 4l60e transmission fluid?

has no fluid at all in it. I had to spread it apart to change the tailshaft from 4x4 to 2wd. so this is an all new fill probably 11 qt

Did you drain the convertor? If not should hold around 4-6 qt if the convetor was drained too around 11-13 qts

Re: 4l60e transmission fluid?

yes, drained the converter and new filter, all new gaskets. Just wanting to check to make sure the dex vi is the correct/best fluid for this trans?

Re: 4l60e transmission fluid?

Dex VI is just the current name for Dexron.

Anything after Dex III should work, but iirc Dex VI is just the current iteration. If you would have looked up that same info 4 years ago, it would have said "use Dex III", then IV, then on and on.
