5.3 intake flap question

Hi all,
Is the throttle body flap supposed to move when the ignition is in the ON position but not started? My flap seems like it wants to move when the gas peddle is pressed but barley budges, is this normal? There is also a high wine coming from somewhere on the engine when the ignition is in the on position??

any thoughts??

Re: 5.3 intake flap question

It's probably some kind of startup check to verify the position of the tb.

Assuming that you have a dbw truck, when the key goes to the on position, the throttle goes open then back to its resting 98% closed position. This is to check the dbw components. If you are pressing the gas pedal and the tb does not change postion (i.e., your input does nothing to the TB) then you probably have a mismatched/miswired/misprogrammed setup. You need to verify that the dbw components are all from the same year, wired correctly, and that the tune was setup to run a DBW truck.

What kind of whine? Key on but engine off?
Fuel pump will make noise, dbw components make an electric motor noise for a couple seconds.

Not sure about the pedal, sounds like a mismatch of components. The whine is coming from the transmission TCM and that is normal for a 6LXX.

Re: 5.3 intake flap question

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yes, the truck is DBW, so the flap should move when the ignition is on but engine not running? This was supposed to be from the same vehicle, how do I check to see if the pedal is from the truck??

Hart Rod, thanks for the info on the whine, thought I was going crazy!

PCM is back at the tuners shop, we will see what happens when he sends it back.

Re: 5.3 intake flap question

The flap would move on its own briefly, yes. If its moving all over the place after that little check, then there is an issue.

Have you cranked the truck over? A dbw mismatch might not be 100% evident until you try to apply pedal input with the truck running. Sometimes it will even allow a few sweeps on the pedal, before dropping itself into a dbw mismatch code (there are a few different ones). I initially had a later model pedal on my truck, and it allowed me to rev once or twice before going limp.

Yes, it does briefly so I guess it is ok. As far as the pedal, how would I know if it is from the engine or is a mismatch??

Also, does anyone know if the 2011 5.3 came with EGR??

Thanks again guys!

Re: 5.3 intake flap question

You could have at least put the pictures right side up.....
That is the part number for the 07+ trucks, so at first glance it would appear right to me.

Re: 5.3 intake flap question

High pitch whine is tranny. 6l80e right? If so it's the TCM.
