Re: Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get REALLY lucky...
Man, what a score. I would have to say that's the Find of the Year, so far. Great color, great year, Short/wide, Custom Cab. I'm both happy and extremely jealous at the same time. It's always good to see the '60-'66 guys out hitting the streets looking for trucks to save. It gives me chills to think about how many trucks just like yours were sent to the scrapper because the landlord was too ignorant to call the right people who could save it.
Get the paperwork sorted out and get it in your name ASAP! This will give you security of ownership just in case the former owner decides to do a VIN search on his old truck and then try to play the "my truck was stolen" routine. It may cost you a little more money up front to get all the paperwork sorted out, but I highly recommend doing it as soon as you can.

PO must have died or went to jail.
With it's value, I'd not invest much into it until the paper work was done. |

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get REALLY lucky...
Just got off the phone with the local PD, VIN comes back as clean. So one less worry there(wasn't worried about seller having stolen it, but was nervous about his tenant abandoning such a nice truck).
Seller is currently in NJ(he delivers cars for a living), when he gets back we'll get the paperwork settled up and then I can move forward. I think her name may end up being "Lucky Girl". |

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get REALLY lucky...
Robbed the battery from my longbed, sprayed some carb cleaner down the carb and hotwired the ignition. Started up immediately and ran(albeit roughly) until the carb cleaner was used up.
Tomorrow a battery of it's own, and a few gallons of gas in the tank. Should be interesting... FYI I'll be starting a build thread for it shortly, I'll link that here when I do. |

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get REALLY lucky...
Had some help from some friends to power-wash the first layer of grime off the truck, paint is clearly a quick Macco level job, and it looks like the truck may have been fawn originally. The red isn't bad except for needed a major compounding and a few bad chips and cracks, the white is terrible . It is cracking & peeling and it was badly masked so there is both over-spray onto the red and gaps where there primer shows between the two colors. I will probably sand down and rattle-can the white bits so it looks less terrible.
Also put some gas in the tank and got it to run on its own. It has some definite top-end ticking, and is blowing blue smoke. Going to run some Marvel mystery oil through the crankcase & some seafoam though the carb and see if that helps. Also discovered the alternator is completely dead, so it is running off the battery. The brake M/C was bone dry, but I filled it and pumped the hell out of it and got a good firm pedal. Still going to replace every rubber part in the system but it is good enough for a quick spin around the block. So here is a video of me doing just that, with extra bonus dorky commentary from my friend. |

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get REALLY lucky...
I'm must be seeing double do you have separate rubber floor mats on top of your full floor rubber mat, if so are they cut from a full mat made to look like individual ones if not that's gotta be super rare.....

First time I've seen this thread. What a fantastic bargain. Can't get much closer to free for such a beautiful truck. Congrats and good luck on whatever you decide to do with it.
