Painless wiring harness

First, hope I am in the right area for this thread.

Second, pull bodies off of both 1st series (54 Chev and 54 GMC) as well as off of 59 GMC to do frame stuff, motor stuff, etc.

So, my question is how to order up painless wiring harness for these....can't find a match up to any search criteria....closest thing I found is "GM 10201" and not sure if this is what I need....want to match up to the donor electronics on motor, starter, etc. and to body electronics for the original lights, switches, gages etc.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Also would like to know how to get to the NC/SC area for locals folks who might want to do some swapping or at least story telling.

Thanks....I am really busy trying to get my dustless blaster delivered and will work on figuring out where to advertise that service in here...

Re: Painless wiring harness

welcome to the forum, nice 4 eyed beast you have there.
and yes anything to do with your truck is fair game in this section

a lot depends on what your going to do with the truck, no aftermarket wiring harness is plug and play.
all the wires are long enough for a big long car and will need to be shortened and spliced into your old ends or new ends if you buy them.

the gm 10201 harness is a universal 18 circuit wiring harness with a gm column plug
a stock truck would use about half of those circuits and not use the gm steering column plug.
if your staying stock you could use the 10102 12 circuit harness and still have plenty of expansion.
the gm column plug is a standard plug that gm used from the mid 70s thru 90s maybe even later.
if your changing to a new column then go with the gm column plug, if your staying with the stock column do not use the gm plug.

all the aftermarket harnesses have the capability to ''match up to the donor electronics on motor, starter, etc. and to body electronics for the original lights, switches, gages etc.''
first off... there wasn't much in the way of wiring in these trucks, i believe 3 fuses on a board was it.
there are no wires to hook up the original generator to the voltage regulator, nor instructions.
but the lights, gauges, starter, heater, blinkers and all other stuff is there.
most of your gauges have power to them and then ground thru the sensor.

if your modifying the truck then the it's a crap shoot.
my 58 has the ezwire 21 circuit wiring harness w/ gm column plug.
all circuits are in use plus some added for big loads like the fan, stereo, ac, engine, etc...
my truk also has a 96 gm astro column (same as the s10 column) that uses the universal gm column plug.
it also has ac, power windows, power doors, power seat, stereo, 1000 watts of amps, cruise, trunk release, efi, electric fuel pump, alarm system, electric fan, etc...

Hey _Ogre,

Thanks for all the great input...you really gave me the input I needed. Alice (the 58 is already done with a great wiring harness that I didn't do...someone else did. Here are two of the ones that will get The 59 GMC already has some work done but will be bagged and I have really great metal that I have been hunting down...no cancer on the rebuild and it will sit on a 95 K1500 frame. The 54 five window is all original but will be on an S10 frame etc. and also bagged with orig patina and some antiqued painted on logo and tag lines thanks again for your input
