Re: 1963 that looks like 64-66

Does title say 63? Usually vehicles assembled that late in year are titles as the next year on newer vehicles...maybe so then as well

Re: 1963 that looks like 64-66

Ill preface this by saying I don't know anything about these things.
But the new models came out in September right? Wouldn't that mean that 64s was being built in dec of 63. This one just wound up titled as a 63 possibly? Is the first number of the vin a 3?

X fram and all but never had torsion.. GO figure.

Re: 1963 that looks like 64-66

From what I'm used to with cars and trucks alike, If the car/truck was manufactured from January-June of the year i.e. 1963 then it was a 63. If it was manufactured from July-December of the year (see year previously mentioned) it was considered a late year vehicle unless noted otherwise. If you want to get more technical like with Ford( a name that doesn't belong on this site for they aren't really meant for this site) they went and created the "half year" model, like the 1964 1/2 mustang, where I think the previous mentioned production year issue came into play. There's many benefactors to this so who knows. Every maker had their system of labeling the years of the new and late models.

Re: 1963 that looks like 64-66

I was always under the impression that the summer months were retooling time for the auto manufacturers, this is why new models came out in September. I was told that May-June was the latest the current year rolled out of the assembly plant.

I used to wok at a dealer in the 80's and when they sold an 84 Brigadier in June of 1985, it was still an 84, the factory warranty started when it was sold up to 18K miles but it was titled as an 84.

Re: 1963 that looks like 64-66

If I went into a dealership in October 1965 to buy the "new" '66 model, I would certainly expect it to be titled as a "66".
