hood adjustment

How do I adjust it. I've tried every thing and still pops up on me. I have a chain on it now keeping it from poping up on me. Has anyone made anything to help prevent the hood from having the hood pop on you on the freeway?

Re: hood adjustment

I would try adjusting the hood striker pin. Sounds like it is not completely engaging the latch.

Loosen the locknut and turn the striker counterclockwise a couple turns and try it.

The basic hood adjustment(at the hinges) won't help much with the latching.

Re: hood adjustment

it may sound like this is going the wrong way but try lengthening the striker pin instead of turning it in. it can be too short and not be able to get down past the latch.

Re: hood adjustment

Perhaps these instructions from the 1960 Chevy Shop manual will help:

Also, it’s not all that difficult to lock down the hood with a chain. Here’s how I did mine:

The lower bracket is some odd piece I found in the metal drawer that has a 90 degree bend below the grille support, that extends over and attaches under the bottom of the nearest hood latch bolt:
