Another engine question
Looking at my 350 on the rear part of the left valve cover there is a breather with a hose running to the base of the carb at the front is this something I need to keep I am replacing the 750 qjet with a 600 cfm edelbrock I got at a good price so want to clean up the engine a bit more

Sounds like the PCV connection. Personally I'd keep it.

There doesn't seem to be any thing there just a rubber hose running from the valve cover breather to the front base of the carb I will take a picture to see if anyone can tell me more

Looks to me that the PCV is in the red hose and going to the breather. You will still need it with the edelbrock. Maybe a different set up would be cleaner.

If I need to keep I will clean it up when I put on the new covers I think I have a connection for the underside of my air filter that should clean it up

The PCV system needs engine vacuum to operate properly. The air filter will not have enough draw. The big port on the front of the edelbrock is where it needs to hooked up.

Not seeing the whole pic, looks like it may be hooked up backwards.
PCV valve is a small check valve, usually in the valve cover. It draws crankcase fumes into the base of the carb to be re-burned. Opposite valve cover usually has a breather of some sort. Either a straight breather or a line run to the air cleaner so fresh, filtered air can be drawn into the crankcase. (air out, air in) Not positive, but that may be a straight breather with the vacuum line hooked to it? What's in the opposite valve cover? Any spring loaded check valve that rattles when you shake it? (PCV)

I don't have real great photos, but what Donut said is right. i have a 600 cfm edelbrock. One hose off the front goes to the left (passenger) valve cover to the PCV. The other is a straight hose to the right (driver) front for a breather.

yep, your engine needs to be cleaned up. if you did not get installation instructions with carb go to Edelbrock site and see exactly what hose goes where for carb. paint engine & firewall while carb is off. just be sure to block off opening in manifold while doing this. and install new fuel filter before install. passenger side breather hose should go to the air filter housing base at rear of carb. you can buy screw on style plastic breather tube at parts store. then run rubber hose from valve cover breather tube to air filter housing tube. you can get a low buck chrome breather and PVC in same type breather housing at Pep Boys, etc. post after photo when you are done.

So I should have a Pcv running into the front of the carb from the drivers side and a breather hose to the underside of the air filter from the passenger side ?

That works. Either that, or change the breather out for a different style one. all it has to do is allow fresh, filtered air into the crankcase.
cool68 brought up a good point. The all-in-one. Check what you have. (you may be all set.) Personally, I don't like them/ use them, that's why I forgot. Haven't even looked at one since the early '80's.

Like stated above, I would hook up the hose at the bass of the carb to a PCV valve, you can use a push in filter like this for the other valve cover. It makes no difference which side goes where as long as you hook up the carb to the PCV valve and the other side is filtered.
