Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Hey Roy, so you decided to paint the truck Indigo Blue? Man I can feel your pain on this paint and body mess. I have to take my truck back up there to have a few things fixed. I found some overspray on the passenger door, a small ding on the bed they missed and they nicked the paint when installing the hood. They told me about the overspray and nicked paint but I think they just missed the ding. It's small but I didn't pay all this money to have a ding in my truck. They also have to wet sand and buff the whole truck out. They didn't want to wet sand and buff without all the windows in it because they said it makes a lot of dust / mess. I really hate to drop my truck off because I am a little worried I won't see it again until spring!!!! Great progress on your project up to this point!

After that gets done then it is going to come home for awhile. I will start putting all the wiring and ac/heater stuff back under the dash. I think I have switched gears a bit for the interior color though. I had bought a complete charcoal gray interior out of another C10 but I think I am going to go with the lighter gray that is in the burbs and blazers. I want to put in a set of factory burb buckets and console. The only thing I am up in the air about is what color to paint the interior of the cab. It was going to be the factory steel gray code 90 but I am tinkering with the idea of painting it the marbled silver that will be on the bottom of the truck. Once it is home then I can work on getting the drivetrain back in. I will have to order all new weather stripping for everything and put all that in including the vent windows. I have a set of spare doors that I will transfer everything over from. Will probably put in new window motors at that time. There will still be a ton of work to do even to get it to the point where it can go back to the paint shop for final paint. I still have to put back some funds for that yet. I ended up spending that money on the two K30's I bought.

Since the have done the body work on mine I have been picking it apart. There are a couple of places where they didn't get things smoothed out to my taste and also completely missed a spot on one of the front pillars. Good thing it is not getting ready for final paint. Once I take the truck back for that part I will let them know of everything. I am sure once I start putting it back together at home I will become anal and comb over the truck pretty good. We will still have to drill new holes in the new GM doors for mirrors and drill holes in the new GM fenders for fender emblems. I am gong to put all the factory trim back on this when done and run the factory dumbo mirrors as well.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
If the lighter gray interior is a little darker than the marbled silver I say paint the interior the marbled silver. Glad they are making some progress on your truck!

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
I think the truck will look really good the blue and silver. Yeah I like them big mirrors and trim. If you are like me once you get the truck home you will find little things that they missed and expect them to be fixed before they call the job complete. Some things are very minor to most people but to the truck owner dishing out the money for the paint those little things become big things, lol

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Figured I better put up the pics of the Sem rust shield that was sprayed on the cab and bed. Some of the pics are sideways. I am going to try to get to the shop Thurs. or Fri. to see when he can spray me some sample pieces of the paint.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Going out to the paint shop tomorrow to look at some paint chips. I guess the Indigo has a little metalflake but has more pearl than anything in it. So I have to see if the Marblehead color will look similar as far as having the right metalflake content in it. I need to try and get them close so they blend together when you look at it. I don't want it to look like one is just a plain color and the other has the pearl/metalflake.
Hopefully I can come up with something and maybe get some paint on some of it next week. If he can get it trimmed out then I will take my frame out and get the cab and bed set back on.

Leaning more towards the silver color for the interior although that means that everything I bought from the donor truck is the wrong shade of gray. I will have to find me a burb and blazer for interior pieces if this is the route I go. Kind of sucks but I think the lighter gray will go along with the outside paint scheme better. I might just go ahead and snap some pics of the chips anyway and throw them on here. Hopefully if I can get back there on Monday and let him know 100% that is what I want then he can start trimming everything out by the end of the week.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Got a little paint sprayed on the dash and the panel just below the back window. I will have to wait til I get home to post a few pics. I end up going with the steel gray code 90. Should have some color on the jams, inside of doors, firewall, front of bed and back of cab tomorrow.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Not the best pics. Left the rest of the can painted in SEM Rust Shield and only painted what will be visible.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
The lighting really puts a glare on it. Nothing special just the steel gray.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Clayton, my plan for now is to get some Wheel Vintique Vette rallies. 15x10 295/50's in the back and 15x8's and not sure about size of tires yet for the front. I have a brand new set of Firestone FireHawk Indy 500 white lettered tires that are the 295/50's and they are on a set of AR wheels. I am going to see if I can still find two smaller tires for the front since they quit making this tire in white letters. Hopefully someone has a set somewhere on a shelf other wise I may have to buy another complete set. I like my white letters. This is the plan for now. Maybe down the road I might by a nice set of shiny rims.
Today he got the cab all masked off and got some color and clear on it. I didn't take any pics of the color until tomorrow. The lights in the paint booth just put too much glare on it for good pics. Looks pretty slick from what I seen of it right before quitting time. I am thinking tomorrow he might shoot the front side of the bed and inside of the new doors so we can go ahead and hang the doors. He still has to paint the glovebox door, ashtray door, and the metal plate that goes under the steering column. They will be the steel gray. After seeing the Indigo and the steel gray next to each other I almost told him to paint the bottom of the truck steel gray but think I will stick with the silver. They do look really good together though. I think I am really going to like this when the truck gets totally finished. All I have to do now is find the right shade of bucket seats, dash and door panels. Going to start hitting the scrap yards pretty hard looking for burbs and blazers for the lighter gray color. I have been pretty anal with myself over these colors so that they all flow together. I am sure it will be great when done. I am also looking for a set of aluminum heads for the 355 that is going in it. I think I am going to paint the engine Indigo with aluminum heads or I am going to put iron heads on and paint all blue with painted silver intake and black valve covers, air breather with silver script letters. One thing at a time though. It gets overwhelming if I try to think about it all at once.

The inside of the bed is going to get LineX or something similar. Not sure if I am going to tint it with Indigo or just go with black.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
The owner of the body shop gave me a can of this cleaner that I am going to try out. One of my buddies stopped in the body shop while the owner was out and said that the owner turned him onto this cleaner. He said used it on the heater vents on his vehicle. You know how dusty and grungy they can get. Said he sprayed it on there and let it set for a few minutes and came back and it was all clean. Not sure how it works yet but going to give it a try. The shop owner said it is made for any vinyl. Going to try it on my 03 crew cab and see what it does.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
First I vote a BIG YES on putting some 295 50's with the white lettering out! Looks soooo good when the tires are nice and clean with those pretty white letters out. I vote black on the bed liner just because I like the way mine came out. lol. Here is a couple pics of my bedliner. It's dirty but looks good overall. Also here is a pic to give you a little food for thought. It's my buddies truck he had years ago. The pic is not that good but the colors looked really good together.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Pics from today. The first pic is with some kind of light that simulates sunlight to show how the paint will look when outside. You really can't capture what it looks like on camera. Just doesn't do it justice. When looking at the cab inside it just looks like a dark blue which looks a bit darker than I like but I think once it is outside that will change. He still has to block sand the roof and a few other places on the cab yet but he got what is needed to put the cab and bed on the frame.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Again the pics just don't do justice as the gray is pretty nice. It would actually look good on the bottom of the truck verse the silver that will be going on it.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
Trying to see if there is a good way to freshen up the firewall AC box as the one I have is sun faded or I am also looking into an AC delete kit. With the 355 I won't be having air hooked up anyway. If I ever get the truck done and can put in an LS motor then maybe put the AC box back in. Not sure yet. http://acdelete.com/pages/73-90_Truck.htm

Progress is looking good. I know how you feel about the pics not doing it justice. That's why I took an HD video and posted it to YouTube!

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
I need to get my rear in gear. I have to get the rubber strips cut so I can install my fuel tanks and get the lines hooked up. I need to get this done and the rear wiring ran before I put the cab and bed on. I have been waiting on the shop to get the cab and bed done for so long I forgot about this little stuff. It's in the other side of my pole barn and I don't get on that side very much. Out of site out of mind I guess. Time to hop to it.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build
I really need to get back out to the garage but I just don't feel like it. I still have to mount the drivers fuel tank and run my wiring back for the bed. I am supposed to take the frame tomorrow to the shop and we are going to set the cab and bed on so I can bring it home. However we are supposed to get some snow tonight so not sure how that is going to play out yet. Really don't want to load it up and bring it home in all that crap. I guess I am going to have to make myself get up and get out there. All I want to do is lay down and sleep right now.
