60-62 4x4 VIN number question
Can anyone tell me if 60, 61 & 62 4x4 trucks used a K in the serial number? I am talking primarily about Canadian sold trucks. I know that in 63 to 66 you would typically see a number like 3 to designate the year (in this case 63) followed by a K to denote that it was a 4x4. I have looked at several 61 4x4's lately that guy's swear are factory 4wd's but they have C as the second digit. If you look at the S/N decoders for CDN model trucks online you don't see K's in the model numbers either. Looks to have started in 63. Anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks

Re: 60-62 4x4 VIN number question
That's interesting. I assume all the trucks were 1/2 or 3/4 ton. Napco still converted trucks if the client required for 1 ton and above.
I saw a conversion in Ontario of a 2wd to 4wd and the distinctive differences between was the hanger units for the leaf spring to frame were made with welded plate steel. The 4WD shifter was on the RHS of the four speed though I've now come to know that in 1960 the shifter was that way. Hopefully Padresag will read this and chip in. I'll check some literature I have, but it's all American based. Perhaps if your serious about a truck you can have GM Oshawa run the Vin number.

Re: 60-62 4x4 VIN number question
I have a 60 4x4 K20 and yes there is a k denoting 4 wheel drive! So mine starts out as such: 0K254K 11**** - with the 1st 0 denoting the year, 2nd- 4WD, 3rd(25) being 3/4 ton, 4th- pickup, 5th-where made, 6th- vehicle #! Hope this helps!

Re: 60-62 4x4 VIN number question
I'll have to check. I believe the cable is there but it's not hooked up. The PO used the truck to haul a backhoe and put in a 283 or a 350 in it. It's jammed so far back against the firewall that I can't get to the numbers to see what it is. I ran compression and have 2 bad cylinders but she runs fine. Need to save some cash!!! As far as the rest, I believe she's original.

Re: 60-62 4x4 VIN number question
Thanks and I appreciate it! I'll double check in the morning as it's late now. Do you still want to see some better close up pics? I'll try and take some tomorrow and will post on this thread.
