Auto Meter temp sensor

Hey guys I bought an auto meter gauge and temp adapter. I had to drill out the adapter to fit the sensor but the probe is not long enough to stick through. Does it need to or will it be ok how it is. Im Worried it wont read correctly.

As long as the sender matches the guage, you will be ok. Auto meter lists a short sender to fit that app (no drill to fit), & that works fine on my setup? The sender does not fit as deep as what your pic shows....Longhorn

Should I use teflon pipe dope or tape on the threads. The adapter did come with a copper crush washer.

I didn't. I bought the separate autometer adapter but for some reason my gauge reads about 15° lower than the pcm... pcm sender is in driver side head and gauge sender is on pass side rear.

I have not checked, with any temp tools, but do not think that I am running hot? Go to the bottom of the 2nd page....pics on the longhorn swap. The headers have 3 hrs running time....no burnt paint, no issues? The rad hoses, I can hold with my hands(old welder)? No argue here....I am sure that you or I can stand over that mill, and know if it is running hot? Longhorn

i used a drill bit a little larger than the probe. i held the fitting with vice grips and let it self center on the bit using a drill press. hope that makes sense.

Just for thought....with a 2259 sender(for 90 degree sweep gauges), no need to drill the adaptor? longhorn
