Going to run a serpentine belt - there's gotta be a told made for tightening this nut - does anyone know what it's called and where I can find one? thanks in advance.

A dab of loctite, a leather glove and an impact gun? I assume that's how GM does it...

Re: Tool for alternator nut
Agree. An impact will do it no problem. Just hold the pulley with a gloved hand.

Re: Tool for alternator nut
Another vote for impact gun. Removed a pulley from my old alternator with a cheap impact just yesterday afternoon. Wearing a leather glove with a tight grip on the fan, and I was surprised at how easily it broke it loose and spun it right off.

Re: Tool for alternator nut
On other notes - can someone tell me if there is washer beneath the nut that holds on the power steering pump pulley - I have the nut here but was expecting a washer...

Re: Tool for alternator nut
Yes. There is a washer that goes behind the nut. It is a narrow lock washer.
I agree an air impact is the way to handle the nut. If you do not have one you can use a box wrench & hold the armature with an allen wrench in the shaft. |

Re: Tool for alternator nut
64 stepside - it's a 327 SBC - it's just running a mid serpentine belt setup and thus all the replacing of pulley's and what's required as far as nuts and washers etc.
