spring hangers

Does anyone know the dimensions of the 73-87 rear leaf spring hangers?
I'm interested in knowing how far they come past the frame.

There is a difference in hangers from 1/2&3/4 to 1 tons too.The one ton hangers sit closer to the frame,these are 4wd models.Not sure about 2wd

I'm mounting a late model axle under my 54 truck. I want to do different springs. I want to be able to have an outboard shock absorber. So, I need the springs a little further out from the frame. They can't be any more than 7" though, that's all the room I got.

Any dimensions you have would help.

I can measure easily but not sure I understand the question.

You are (essentially) asking how far outboard of the frame rail the leaf spring will be positioned?

I will try to get a measurement from both a 3/4 ton and the crew tonite when I get home from work

On a 1/2 ton 2wd the centerline of the spring is about 4.5" from the frame rail.

That leaves about 3" space between the edge of the leaf spring pack and the side of the frame.

Awesome, that's what I was looking for. Not for sure if that will let me squeeze a shock between the frame and spring though.

I want to improve the ride and handling on my truck. Wider is better, right? Ford Ranger or Chevy Colorado leaf springs are what I'm planning on running. I just haven't figured out what hanger yet. The Ranger hangers are pretty close to the frame, I was wanting something that spaced them out a little bit.

I'm not for sure if it's do-able or not, the AD trucks don't leave alot of room between the bedsides and frame. Not to metion, I have a 54, so the bed sits even lower than the earlier trucks.

I measured my shock mounts and shock. Looks like 3" gives me enough room to squeeze between the spring and frame. I'm sure a large bodied shock won't work, but a standard tube shock should do the trick.

I don't know how much side to side movement a parallel leaf setup has. I'm guessing since I'm not going offroading or doing a slalom, it's not going to be a big deal. I can always modify the shock mount slightly to move inboard if need be.
