inline six beefy engine!

anyone hear know what to put on an inline 250 to make it sound like a good beefy engine. dont really care how much hp the engine puts out i just want it to have a good exhaust sound for now!

The guys in Brazil know how to make power with 250's! I'd do the Lump Port modification to the heads, a mild cam, and triple sidedraft Weber carbs.

They are short tube headers from clifford. Made from 16 gauge steel. They work fine. I've driven the truck about 5-6 miles and had no paint burn off. They get a little hotter then the stock exhaust manifold. Price will make ya cring though. I like the looks better then the cast iron ones from T Langdon.

summit or jegs has them. they are either headman or hooker. had them on a stock 68 chevy panel truck 250 with 4 barrel and intake . ran really good

I've heard lots a bad things about the headmen headers...one is they are cheap and don't last...I bought a set for my 292 and returned them because they looked like they were ready to fall apart. Plus they were made of cheap thin 24-26 gauge steel. My clifford short tube headers are 16 gauge steel and I paid $340 for them...spendy, but well worth the money. Clifford does make long tube headers as well. $439 for them. Spendy, but you'll have a great set of headers. Maybe next time I am in CA I can go to his place and pick up a set for ya. lol. Then you won't have to pay shipping. Tom Langdon's cast iron non-tube headers are probably yer best bet.

I had a set of the flow tech long tubes on my stock 250 running to a single flow master knock off and it had a nice rumble at idle. Sounded like a v8.

I have heard that the long tube headers increase torque a little more, but the difference you gain is not ALL to much that much...with long or short tube headers you gain a maximum of 25 hp and a maximum of 15 torque...short tube headers are cheaper and easier to install if you get the better quality ones.

Short tube for higher rpm. Long tube if you intend to drive it as that makes the power in the driving rpm range...i.e. lower, tri-y for the mid range.

No one is making tri-y for inline sixes any more....Clifford used to and several mfgrs thru jc whitney in the old days. But I keep coming back to Langdons cast iron headers with the heat coating......I can y pipe at the right spot and get a similar impact....just gotta figure where. I think not more than about 3 feet back....somewhere near the cab front I think.

But don't knock it.....up to 25 horse on a 155 horse engine is a huge percentage.....I'd spect that's only with cam and intake mods though. 10 or so horses is prolly more realistic. Good news is if you want the absolute best idle and daily driveability nothing beats the stock inline 6 cams that are already in the engine....every other cam moves torque and power further up the rpm range where you be using it less and less often unless yer on the drag strip. I'll be keeping my stock cam and the goal is to make the power and torque in the useable band from 1500 to 3500 rpm.

short headers are for people that want duel exhaust. long tube headers are for people that want to make more HP.if you are running a stock motor it probably doesn't matter

I'd just say run open headers and have a back pressure regulator to compensate for that. Sounds good on my truck when the flange split the donut gasket lol.

My Langdon's come together with a 2 1/2 "Y" at 20" behind each collector and continue 2 1/2 through a Magnaflow 2 1/2 chambered and 2 1/2 out .
