basket weave pattern arm rest

Hey guys,

I bought this NOS arm rest on Ebay about 5 yrs back thinking it looked rather cool and different to use in my truck since my original arm rest was shot. I figured it would be rather easy to find another one to match for the passenger door but I have not seen one since! I have searched the net for photos & application background with no luck. This one does fit the original door mount holes and is the same overall style of my original arm rest with the exception of the vinyl pattern. The vinyl portion was originally dark green in colour as you can see in one of the photos but I did respray it in a lighter moss green to match my cab interior. I thought I'd see if if anyone here can provide any info on this style arm rest? Were they used in 60-66 trucks or older years, 55-59 perhaps? Would this style be considered rare? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: basket weave pattern arm rest

Possibly recovered by the previous owner? I only seen the smooth vinyl on arm rests for the 60-63 models in all the dealer literature. I've had 2 sets of oems recovered and the vinyl was much cut much neater from the factory.....but this is only on the sets I've seen.

Re: basket weave pattern arm rest

Here is what you have, I think they are 1960 truck armrests without the chrome trim. Then someone recovered them with the basket weave material. I used these in plain black for my 66. They are much smaller and better looking than the boxy ones that are supposed to be there. JMO

With the same basket weave pattern? Got any pics? According to the seller I bought it from it was NOS, so I assumed the basket weave vinyl was original to this armrest & not redone. I can't remember if it came in the original GM box, will have to search my parts boxes and see if I can find it and get a part number off it?

If GM mad that, the cuts on the backside would have been a lot better.

Re: basket weave pattern arm rest

just because a seller on ebay says it"s NOS doesn"t make it true. Lots of that going on these days.

No, the same style of armrest, but mine all have smooth vinyl.

Passenger line? Ask sms if they recognise the pattern.

Re: basket weave pattern arm rest

My wild guess is that it's for an earlier truck. Ask over in the 47-59 forum?

That was my thought also as I mentioned in my original post, so I posted the same question on the 47-59 board earlier this morning. I also found a pair on Ebay this morning in rough shape but with what appears to be the same pattern also in green. I asked the seller to confirm this and he just did, same pattern vinyl, he said he personally removed them from a 1956 GMC Deluxe cab. So it looks like it may be a factory vinyl piece but for the 55-59 truck model range. I also found the same type of vinyl pattern used on early to mid 60s Chevy Impala door panels and armrest.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. If I get any confirmations either way from 47-'59 board members I will post an update here.

Thanks for the tip, I have just sent them a couple of photos of the armrest to see if they have any info on it.

Thanks again for the SMS source aerotruk63, I just got word back from them. They have confirmed that this is indeed the correct pattern for '55-'59 GM trucks! They still have this patter available so I will be able to purchase some to recover a new armrest for the passenger side of my truck to match my original one.

It would appear that way 1963c-10. No word yet from anyone over on the 47-59 board at this point but I'll consider it case closed unless I hear otherwise or find any more concrete proof one way or the other.
Thanks guys.
