Sad sad day, sold my truck
Have had her 15 years and have rebuilt her twice. Placed an ad on Craig's list last night and sold today for asking price. Since this last rebuild I just haven't wanted to drive it. Afraid to tear it up or get a scratch I guess? Plan on sticking around here though, I've still got my 2012 z71

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Sorry for you loss, hard to say no when you get what you asked for,,,
I went through that once, and it was even worse when the guy who bought put in a ditch about 6 months later.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Sounds like you made the right decision. If the truck becomes a nightmare to drive due to excessive worry over scratches and such then what fun is it. I had a truck like that. I put a ton of time and money in it and would then constantly worry about parking it somewhere. Sold it and bought a 66 with faded paint, dents and rust. Lowered it and put nice wheels and tires on it. Drove it everywhere and had a blast. Did not worry about anything.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Gene,
Sorry to hear the news. I am starting my first rebuild and sure hope I don't feel that way at the end. Maybe you will find something to replace it and drive it into the ground. |

That is exactly why I don't build show type trucks. I did that on the Red/White '71 and sold it for the same reason... If it's nice enough I can take it to a cruise night once in a while that is good enough for me... LockDoc

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
It's always sad to see them go. I almost sold mine but my wife said "NO YOUR NOT"! So I guess I have 2 in my house I can't get rid of. It was a beautiful truck you built, I bet another will follow you home again within the next 6 months.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
If you get to missing it enough, you can always pick up another and build it just a bit less perfectly. Lucky for me, I can drive my truck just about anyplace with no worries...

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Thanks man, unfortunately I have no plans on getting another. Kids needs override my need for toys, got a 15 yr old who needs a car and a 19 yr old who needs to go to school.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
That's one reason I sold my mustang and picked up a rusty C10. Wanted something I could take to weekend trips to Lowe's and Menards.

Could be, but I got back 100% of what I put into it. Minus labor of course

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
I build late models for a living, and old ones to fill time in shop gaps between sales. Other than just something to drive I try not to get too attached emotionally. I rather enjoy the build side of the things anyway and after the build is done, I don't drive them as much as I thought I would. Maybe it is I'm too busy or afraid of messing it up again. Maybe one out of the three builds I have got going now will be different. At least my plan is to keep the GMC that is being built of the three.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Gene, This is a surprise...in a way...but not at all in another way. I too have crossed over that mountain and am on the other side now. I just love spending time in these trucks and looking at show trucks that are someone else's. Heck,I'm even kinda burned out on going to shows now.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
And for those reasons alone are a good reason why you sold it. You will get another one in time, good things happen to good people!

Say it ain't so Gene. Sorry to here you sold it, but sounds like it was the best decision for you at the present time. I wish you the best on your next project/daily driver.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
Dead stand still. Work got real busy last year to the point that we relocated our company from a 12,000 sq ft facility to a 38,000 sq ft one and my wife and I are currently expecting our second child any minute now, actually going in at 5am tomorrow morning to kick start the labor. Wish us luck.

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
I understand. When I sold my first vehicle (64 c10 shortfleet) I just couldnt even keep any of my other classics for that long. For me I got burnt out in 10 yrs. I had 11 in that time from 39-67. Now just a couple months ago after selling my last classic I finally pulled the trigger and bought an 01 silverado single cab shortbed. Everyone here and there said nothin beats a classic. Well true but lets just say I love my lil silverado almost as much as my first love the 64 c10 aka Patima . Now that Z71 thats gotta be fun!

Re: Sad sad day, sold my truck
What you have now is a classic in it's own way. That body style is a couple few changes back now. Lots of changes since. The standard cab SWBs are always hot and from what I see around here, there aren't all that many compared to ext cabs, longbeds, etc. You're just moving the timeline up
