Who's familiar with Chevy Greenbrier?

I was doing some poking around on Craigslist and saw an ad for a Chevy Greenbrier Van and Truck. I have never heard of them or seen one. I opened the ad and saw the pictures, and they're actually really cool looking. I know nothing about them, but noticed they are part of the 60-66 family and thought I'd ask if anyone knows much about them. This Craigslist ad is saying they are rare...how rare are they? Anyone?

Part of the Corvair family, here is some info you might find useful. Not sure how rare they may be? Perhaps other members can chime in who may have more info on production numbers etc.

Re: Who's familiar with Chevy Greenbrier?

That's some pretty cool reading. Thanks for the link! If I had the room, I'd pick both of these up I found on craigslist. For what they're priced at...it doesn't seem like a bad deal. I had just never seen the truck or van model and thought they were cool...mainly because they were produced for a short amount of time. Anyone else?

These were very dangerous trucks. I was in a crash that hit a telephone pole spent 2 week in the hospital with a busted back the driver was almost killed. He shot out of the front like a cannon ball about 30 feet and hit the ground. It was a 35 mph crash. This truck and Corvair were the cars that Ralph Nader killed back in the 60's.

Flashed: you could own a truck and a van! Haha, I can send you the craigslist link.

dwcsr: I have read where some people have said they were dangerous vehicles. They're not as cool as the Syclone/Typhoon/GN's...but they kind of remind me of them just because you don't see many of them around. That's one reason I like them so much!

Here is a link to Jay Leno's '61 rampside (similar to a greenbrier) restoration looks really good, nice rolling video of the truck too. Although I do feel that any occupants of these vehicles are very vulnerable in a crash. No real protection up front! But it is a rather cool looking vehicle.

They pop up for sale from time to time. I allmost purchased a rampside p/u. Then I found my A100 pickup. (Same body style as the Little Red Wagon.) The panel vans are the rarest. I have only seen two or three over the years. Most of these vans of the 60s wound up behind the family house to be used as a shed. Usually pick them up cheap.

Re: Who's familiar with Chevy Greenbrier?

Production volume for the rampside pickups was 4102, and build was discontinued in 1964 according to the GM Heritage Center. Sounds like that volume may be specific to the model year.

There is a Corvair rampside on display in the Vehicle Engineering Center lobby with this information on the sign.
