door frame sheet metal piece

What's the name - if any - of the strip of sheet metal that runs along the top of the door frame in the truck cab? Something like 22" in length. There's a seam on each end of it that mates with the front and rear sections of the door frame.

The below pic (borrowed from the 6066gmcclub) is referencing the VIN tag posted there. The frontward seam is visible in this pic.

Is it a singular piece or part of a larger section of sheet metal?

Re: door frame sheet metal piece

60short,

per my 60-66 factory assembly manual, it looks like it's called a "side header outer panel". it looks like a single piece that is spot welded at the top of the "lock pilar assembly" (the piece where the door striker goes) with 9 spot welds and at the "front header outer panel" which holds the top of the windshield (six more spot welds). if you have the manual it's on the third page of drawings in from the front...

Very Cool!

Thanks for the information and the pointer to the assembly manual. I don't have that manual but looks like I will be picking it up in the near future!

Re: door frame sheet metal piece

If you need it for a '64-'66 cab and you aren't in a hurry, I have a cab roof I am going to be taking apart for the skin & to fix some drip rails damaged by a falling tree branch. I am about 80% certain I won't need that part and can cut it out and mail it to you.
Won't be starting on the project until the spring though.

Although I'm running a '60, what'ya bet that piece would interchange on cabs? When it comes time to cuttin' keep me in mind. I'd be happy to pay your shipping for those pieces.
