Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

Hello all. I was posting the below from my phone and wasn't realizing it was the lsx classifieds. The question was reading oil pressure from the canbus through DD BIM-01 module not actually able to read it. So the conversation went towards adding the DD sender that came with the gauges. Does anyone have a comment regarding what you did or tried and if it worked or not?

Mine is setup with the sender separate from the canbus. It works fine that way.

Yes.. I used the oil sender and wiring that came with the VHX gauges. All the other functions.. tach, speed, water temp, trans temp, etc are being feed from the CANBUS.

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

DD said they are not able to read oil pressure from canbus so that is why I had to plumb and wire in the DD sender.

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

Going to bump this. Hopefully you guys can put a worry of mine to rest.

I went with the DD gauges and interface as well. I also read that it doesn't read oil pressure. So before I installed my '05 5.3, I pulled the stock sender out and replaced it with DD's sending unit.

Maybe I've already answered my own question, lets see.
I'm worried about the computer seeing zero oil pressure and not allowing it to run. Even during start up, there is some oil pressure. Some motors wont allow start up unless 3 psi is witnessed.

Since the DD's OBD2 interface can't see oil pressure, does this mean the computer doesn't either? Will I have an issue leaving my oil pressure sending unit plug disconnected and hanging off the back of the intake, thus not sending that info to the ECM?

Thanks all.

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

I put a tee in and used the Vhx sender for the gauges and kept the stock LS on for the computer. No problems.

That won't be a problem at all. The ECM does not use the oil pressure data.

So I didn't have to put the tee? If the ECM doesn't use it then what is it used for? Is it something the BCM read and displayed?

My new engine harness does not even have a connection for the oil pressure.

Some of the newer engines use it for DOD/AFM purposes. But GenIIIs do not need the oil sender.

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

The genIII sender is for an idiot lite only, it doesn't read "how much"....only "if" there is oil.
The ecm does get an input from it, but removing said input does...nothing.

I beleive the genIV's do actually get a value from the sensor, as when you run a scangauge-type device on the GenIV's you can get a PID for oil pressure.

So can I add the D D sender to the bypass housing next to the oil filter, and leave the stock sender and wiring in place on a 5.3 2003

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

I have a genIV and the DD gauges will not work with the computer oil pressure via CANBUS. I had to install the DD sender to get my guages to read oil pressure that is the pictures above,

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

I have a factory oil cooler that attaches to the ports above the oil filter. That is why I put the tee at the top of the valley pan.

Re: Oil pressure sender with vhx gauges etc

So just to clarify, my 2002 system 4.8l does not use the oil pressure signal from the sender at all. I could just take it out, tuck the connector back and install a mechanical hard line to my stock '76 gauge?
